I have my own ideas of quality and have worked along side some legends in the design/illustration industry. I have yet to see anyone offering cheap work consistently that is of high quality.

If you like what you're getting, that's cool. I'm somewhat of a snob when it comes to this stuff though
For those of us who aren't in the industry, can you give some ballpark figures on what we 'should' be paying for logos, cd inserts, posters, etc design? I know the stuff that I've gotten is on the expensive end, but I just love my guy's work.

The people hurting the industry more are the ones offering their work for free. That's the reason the others have to offer theirs on the cheap - otherwise they wouldn't be able to get themselves off the ground.

From my experience, a designer with talent and experience will typically charge $50-$100 hour for quality work. I'm really slow when it comes to logos; I typically work 5-20 hours depending on the size of the client but I won't charge for all that time because I am slow in doing that. I will also charge somewhat according to revenue. CocaCola wants a new logo, you're talking $$$$$$$$$$. An unkown band? Probably at least $100-300 because I know they cannot afford more. With lower rates you will get less changes and less chances to complain but I'll be very upfront about it.

There's no set rate but $40-65 bucks doesn't cover any time. There's design time and production time. You gotta build an electronic file in the appropriate formats and color spaces (RGB, CMYK, eps, gif, png, jpg, etc)

There's no easy answer but even if you are lightening quick, I don't see how you can give quality in less than 4 hours for design and production.

Offering low prices to undercut and compete soley on price hurts the industry.

Like I said if you like the work and the rates, that's cool and good for you. It never hurts so shop around and talk to someone like a Travis Smith.

$1000 a pretty good price for a logo, sticker, and complete press kit minus actual duplication costs....

You need to find someone who really likes your music... my last two band logos were free... one was just simple block text... this one was free:
