I had cable until 2005 and Direct TV / DSL since then. I prefer the latter. Stick it to the Cable guy, most likely Time Warner with record profits from F'ing everyone.

One thing I'm considering doing, cancelling my DTV, then getting it installed again (new hardware, $50 gift card, etc.)

Are there many people who cancel at the end of contract, then re-sign to get the goodies new customers get?

And yes, 4 TVs max unless you get a second dish I guess. 7 TVs is a bit excessive IMO. Try something else, like playing guitar in your free time

I left DTV about 10 years ago, then re-signed up again last year. They still had me in their computers from my old address! No specials, no nothing - I had to agree to a 2 year contract just to get the DVR thrown in. They're pretty serious about the "new customers only" thing when they're giving out the freebies!
Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

        We'll, that sucks.

I don't buy that b.s. that the signal goes out all the time. It takes a really big storm to knock out my signal, like the one I have right now:ROTF:

Now watching 6 episodes of Star Wars with Clone Wars cartoons thrown in (on DVD).

          Not true.
I've installed 9 tv's. From one dish. Theeres usually multiple outputs on a modern LNB.

I had to use 2 dpp switches, and one power inserter.
two of the boxes were dual tuner-dvr's, so I ran backfeeds off those.

right you can get any multi switch to feed any number of recievers...you have to pay for authorization of each receiver thought

I have Dish Network and AT&T for phone and DSL. I love it. I have had Dish for a long time but have never had cable or Direct so I have no idea what is better. AT&T dsl seems to be good. I came from the country where it wasnt available so anything is better than dial up.

And the DVR I got free from Dish has worked flawless for a few years now. Easy to use and a lot of space. Did I mention free?

I believe dtv has a "customer retention" department. I hear on the avs forums that users get some nice concessions by telling them they are considering leaving. ymmv
