  • hey folks

Just to introduce myself, My name is Rob Ashe and I'm from Gilby, ND. I'm 22 years old and I've been a daily visitor to his board for quite some time now and I'm just getting around to posting as I have been waiting to get my Jackson in presentable order for picture taking before I posted on here. I'm hoping to learn more about my guitar (technical specs, manufacturer info) and about Jacksons in general. I've been playing guitar for 12 years, which included a two year stint studying Jazz Guitar and Music Industry at Moorhead State University. I'm primarily a metal player, Dimebag Darrell is my favorite guitar player of all-time, but I also love blues and classic rock as well. Hendrix, Gilmour, Vai, SRV, Hammett/Hetfield are all big influences.

My guitar is what I think (key word being think) is a 1993 Jackson Rhoads Pro (#J303577). I recently replaced the factory Licensed Floyd Rose with a Real Floyd and the pickups are 2 EMG 89's. I was hoping that someone may be able to tell me for sure what year the guitar was made, where it came from and what the color of the paint is called (I didn't find anything close on any color charts). I have tried finding the info through dealers and some friends with not much luck. The guitar was a gift from my mom on the day of my first live show with my band 4 years ago this june. We went to the local music store so I could grab some strings before heading to the show, and I ended up wandering into the guitar room to see what they had in stock. In the back corner sat the Jackson, which shocked me because the store was NOT a Jackson dealer. The guitar had come in earlier that week by way of a trade in. Fortunately for me, my mother had been saving up for 6 months to buy me a new guitar for school (I had just gotten accepted into MSUM at the time), so I got to basically take home my dream guitar. The Rhoads has been my favorite guitar shape since I first saw Kirk Hammett playing them back when I was younger. The dark metallic purple is still something I have yet to see on too many other guitars.

here are a few pics of me and the guitar from a while back and I'll post some pictures with the new floyd all polished up later today when I finish working on it. If anyone has any info they can give me I would greaaaaatly appreciate it.

    Welcome Rob!

That's a 1993 RR PRO you have there. Here's more info:

I have a 1990 one in ferrari red. Awesome guitars!

You can find pic of my here: http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67359

The licensed floyd rose there is a Schaller one which is just as good as OFR. Why did you take it out? And how did you get the OFR to fit in there? Route is to little for the OFR as far as I know (locking bolts would stick out cause they're too long).

Hey thanks man. The old floyd was really thrashed. The previous owners must have played it really friggin hard I guess because it was rusted out and couldn't hold intonation or tune worth a damn. Even the base of it was pretty messed up too. I played it live myself in probably 70-80 shows, all of which drenched the floyd in sweat, not too mention playing it several hours a day for 3 years. I had to get something in there, and a few buddies of mine recommended the OFR so I went with it. The bolts unfortunately stick out, however the whammy bar stuff that I do just barely works so Im guessing that I will have to route it out at some point. Fortunately, I have a friend of mine who did tech work at a music shop for several years so he's gonna help me handle that project pretty soon I think.

I remember seeing your guitar on here when you posted it. It is GORGEOUS. I love that color man. I also like look of the all black truss rod cover too, It makes the neck look slick as hell!

Hey alright man!! Yeah I'm about 3 hours and change from Winnipeg. I was gonna go up there in March to see Megadeth, Black Sabbath (Dio), and Down but I got pink eye!! Still pissed about that.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everybody, I'm glad to see that this board has a lot of real nice down to earth cats on it.

                cheers,

Hey Welcome Dude! Cool rock out pics there! It looks like you're wearing the Rhoads higher in each successive pic!

About your trem...I have heard you can install shorter bolts, check the Tech Q&A forum section.

Thanks! I didn't really like the color at first, but I don't mind it now. I'd still prefer black though .

Bolts from Scaller floyd rose won't fit into the OFR. Your only solution is to shorten the existing OFR bolts or get some custom made somewhere.

Ok, well I guess I'll just have to see if I can find some aftermarket short bolts or something. One of my buddies runs a local Jackson dealer store so maybe I can buy him a case of beer and get him to help me out! I'm gonna try and save routing out the cavity as my absolute last resort.

Just out of curiousity what kind of polish/cleaners do you guys use on your Jacksons? I just got the Meguiars Fender kit and tried it out yesterday on mine. I love the way it turned out, but it was my first time using that stuff so I'm sure I made some mistakes in the process.
