With all of the guitars I have bought both cheap and ,yes, expensive, I have come to the conclusion that a maple board just feels right. In fact, any guitar I buy from now on has to have a maple fretboard or it's a no-go. I'm board.:ROTF:

I've been on a maple kick for the last couple of years, but I have nothing against rosewood at all. Ebony's great, too, & looks the best w/ MOP or abalone inlays, imo. I just go by the whole guitar, and if I have to have it, that's it. Tonewise, it's the same story. I think some of the general rules about tonewoods are true, but each guitar & it's combo of woods always does it's own thing, and sometimes the rules go out the window.

I like the brightness of ebony for the low tunings I use. I sort of hate rosewood--I think it's just ugly and cheap looking.
Maple boards are the best. If there was a USA model with a maple board and ebony sharkfins, I'd start donating plasma to get one.

I find ebony to be too bright for me. I always do more Chicken Pickin on ebony than mapleI want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I love maple boards as well. I have a G&L L2000 coming with a maple board, an ASAT Classic Semi Hollow w/ maple neck and one of Scott's (VWall) limited DK2M (burnt orange bengal!) with a maple board on it's way. Good stuff! I don't like ebony as much these days because it feels a bit too slick under my fingers, but i love the way it looks and sounds. Different uses for em all I guess...

Playing on a maple board feels great, as long as it's raw or has a slight matte satin finish. If it's got that Fender high gloss finish, it just feels sticky and nasty.
I'm also a fan of rosewood and ebony.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

maple all the way... it looks and feels the best and with all mahogany body it sounds the best
rosewood and ebony are ok when there's some cool inlays... but with dots or no inlays I don't really dig the look"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Ebony is the metal-playa's wood
It would be very metal to have an all-ebony guitar

Over the years, I've slowly come to the conclusion that - although I generally prefer the appearance of maple - I really prefer the feel of a hard, dense wood with little maintenance. Pao ferro is best, IMHO. A nice piece of rosewood - preferably brazilian - will do nicely, too. After that, maple. Then ebony which, at times, seems too bright for me. And it also dries out and cracks too easily. ...But that's all kind of like saying I prefer the taste of chocolate ice cream to strawberry - they all taste great.
Also, that all said, I think it mainly depends on the guitar's other specs, too. Some look / feel best with certain fretboard woods, and would be horrid with others.
