"Iowa" is very angry. It's the spot they were in at the time they recorded it. Maybe that's what I like about it, the anger and aggression. The first one was good, but it rode that edge with songs like "Spit It Out". While I like that song, it could be classified as a Rap/Metal song. Not that it's a problem for me. I love hed(PE). But some slam that one. The third is a good one too, showed some progression as a band. A bit more than some would have liked though. I think they were trying to keep Corey and Jim happy with songs like "Circle" and "Vermillion pt. 2"...

Of course a messageboard is full of opinions. Mine is that any band that raps is not a metal band. I'm sure after that sentence someone is itching to mention the Public Enemy/Anthrax collaboration, but that's more of a publicity stunt than a song.

If we were talking Anthrax in 1988, they would have called these guys a joke of a gimmick. Of course, that's just an opinion.

Maybe Anthrax, like Metallica, has developed teen angst in their old age and that's why they want to get involved with Slipknot members!

Yep, I'm sure they would have said the same thing about KISS too... Wait... Didn't they cover Parasite? Wait... Doesn't Scott Ian have a Simmons tat on his shin? Wait... Hasn't Scott Ian went on record as saying Slipknot are one of the better bands out there right now? Humm... Something doesn't ad up...

OK, you bring up the Rap thing. What are you talking about? The 1 song I mentioned above? I tend to hold a band to their entire catalogue then just 1 song. But hey, that's just me...

And whats the dislike for Hot Topic? What should they do with leftover tour shirts? Shred them? If I had a company like Hot Topic ready to write a check for that fat cash for my leftovers, I'd be all over it...

Or maybe Corey is just a good singer...

And just how was Bring The Noise a publicity stunt???

Sorry, Bengal. I'm getting caught up and I'm busting your chops. I'm not a Slipknot fan; if you are or not doesn't matter to me.

I used to think they were the greatest thing ever when I was 15, but now I just can't stand them. And from my 15 year old love of Slipknot, I can tell you they rap in a hell of a lot more than one song.

Kiss? Although I am not a Kiss fan either, I would say Slipknot is a far cry from Kiss. Kiss will go down as one of the most memorable rock bands ever, while Slipknot will be remembered as a trend band that filled a market nu metal niche in the late 90s/early 2000s. Does Korn ring a bell? Korn paved the nu metal path that bands like Slipknot capitalized on. The trend is over, man. Pop punk is the new nu metal, and in 5 years everyone will be trying to forget they were into that, too.

Your not busting my chops. I'm just trying to get you to back up what your saying. Still trying...

Slipknot fan? Yep, I dig them. But it goes much deeper than that. It's a bit more personal...

So what other songs do they rap in? Give me a title or two. That's all I'm asking...

I made the comparison to KISS because of the look...

Slipknot are nothing like Korn. If anyone paved the way for Slipknot it was bands like Slayer and Pantera. That's the roots of Slipknot, not Korn. So I don't see that one either...

So you liked them once but now don't? That's cool. I guess your more mature now, good for you. But some of us just refuse to out grow metal. I'm one. Drives my wife nuts...

                  Rap songs:
Spit it Out (as you mentioned)
                  Only One
                  Liberate
                  No Life
                  (Sic)

As far as Slayer and Pantera paving the way, there's no such thing as nu metal until Korn came around and put it on the musical map. They invented a scene that Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Coal Chamber, blah blah blah, jumped on. Slipknot is one of those bands whose market niche was CREATED by bands like that. Just because you like Pantera (funny aside, one time I saw Slipknot and asked Corey if he was into Pantera; he said "hell yeah, man") doesn't mean you write music like Pantera. The same way bands like The Clash or Crass or Misfits CREATE punk is the same way they pave the way for Good Charlotte and Sum 41. The latter bands are a far cry from their founding fathers, but that type of music doesn't exist without the original innovators ie. Korn, in the example of nu metal

And for the love of Cleveland Metal you said you would learn your lesson! You're=You are....."your" is possessive. I learned that in high school when I was 15 listening to Slipknot (<--that's what I meant when I said "busting your chops" I'm totally fueling the fire, sorry!)

Ex 1. I am busting your chops. (possessive)

Ex 2. You're really into Slipknot (You are)

Dude, I'm too old and set in my ways to take a grammar lesson from an internet post board. Don't like it, don't read it...

As for the songs you listed. I don't think I would call the vocal style rap. Maybe you do, but I don't...

So, without Korn no other band can get signed and sell some albums? So is Devil Driver nu metal? How about Machine Head? How about Lamb of God? Are those nu metal? Did they only get signed because of Korn? Those are the musical equals to Slipknot. Not Korn. You can say it till YOU'RE blue in the face but it doesn't make it true. Sorry. I don't see it...

OK, so you're 20 now. What do you listen to now?

Also, I'm waiting for that Bring The Noise Publicity Stunt answer...

I could also make the arguement that Anthrax needs Corey more than he needs them right now. But I won't. I'll save that one for another day...

I don't know who Devil Driver is. Machine Head used to be a metal band (their first two albums), then they turned nu metal (The Burning Red? Is that what that album was called?). They've only gotten more unlistenable as the years have gone on, so I stopped! (IMO IMO IMO) That's probably how they got on that tour with Coal Chamber, Slipknot, and Amen back when I was a sophomore in HS. I think that was 1999.

I don't know Lamb of God. I think they're a metalcore band? I don't even know. Classifying bands is hard.

Bring the Noise put Anthrax on MTV and into the general public's eye. That song was a "Look at me, mom! I'm on MTV!"

Don't like it, don't read it? You're the one making it hard to read.

OK. Hard to argue with someone who doesn't have all the facts. My mistake...

Classifying bands must not be too hard. That's what got you in this mess...

I'm not a Slipknot fanboy. But I will tell you this about my defense of the band. If you didn't look to your left, I'm from Iowa. Des Moines to be exact. I know these guys personally. I have for some time. I grew up with Jim Root. I just got off tour with Stone Sour last year as a fill in tech for Jim while his full time one was busy with another group. I sat in 606 Studios in LA with Stone Sour for 2 and a half monthts last year recording "Come What(Ever) May". So I've gotten a little closer to these guys than most. What have I learned? Exactly what I've stated. They were more influenced by the bands I mentioned then Korn. I hated Slipknot the first time I saw them in 1994. Hated them. But they were more of a Mister Bungle rip off then. Stone Sour was tearing up Des Moines at the time and I liked them better. Partly because my buddy Jim was the guitarist but also because Corey is one hell of a singer. So I was a bit miffed when Slipknot boosted him. It took the molding of a decent producer, Ross Robinson, to make Slipknot what they are today. But when someone dismisses Corey as a rapper/nu metal singer it gets me going. I've known the guy and toured the world with the guy. I've seen what he can do. He's much more than that...

So forgive me if I come off like a teenager with a crush. Now at least you know where I'm coming from...

Dude, I knew where you were coming from long before this even started. That's why I couldn't resist busting your chops. It was obvious by your replies and your location that you either know these dudes, or are the brother, cousin, what have you, of one of them. (plus I dug your "all threads started by Bengal" and the answer I was looking for was in front of my face within 5 seconds)

One thing is for sure, as much as I am not a fan, they're way more successful than I'll ever be musically. Very good for them.

Do you think Corey will be a good fit for Anthrax? It's very hard for me to envision him in a band like that without it looking and sounding very awkward.

He'll fit just fine look wise. I don't see that being a problem. He's at least taller than Ian...

As for sound, should be good. He'll sing more than he does in Slipknot, I'm sure. Just depends on what they want him to do...

I have not listened to an Anthrax record since White Noise. To me they were a bit of a joke before that. Starting with State of Euphoria. All the shorts and whatnot was just a bit played out for me. So I'm no huge Anthrax fan. I don't see how he's gonna be able to do it though. Listening to Stone Sours set last weekend at Rock am Ring his voice is tired. It needs a rest. I know Slipknot wants to come out of hibernation as well. So his time is limited. We'll see...

So, you're just a shit starter. Nice to know who those are...

Oh come on now. If I was a shit talker I'd be lying. I really DON'T like Slipknot and think they are a bad band. That's like, real talking, or something.

I just also saw the opportunity to get an easy rise out of someone. Admittedly juvenile, but everything I said I believe. I honestly don't know how Anthrax could even be considering this. Call me a juvenile loser with nothing better to do while I'm at my parents house, but a shit talker is a bit of a stretch.

What's wrong with a little controversy on a the internet? Isn't that a natural by-product of the internet, and messageboards in general? I know you have some personal, heart-felt, bond with Slipknot, but your skin has gotta be a little thicker than that.

Maybe Anthrax is considering this because both of Coreys bands are bigger than they are right now...
