  • 90 Days

88 days ago I got back on my bike. A reaccuring back problem had kept me off of it for almost a year, well that and the apathy you get from not being able to do something you love for so long. My goal was simply ride every day for 90 straight days and damn the pain. I was pretty overweight for me, 6'2" and 266 pounds. OK, REALLY overweight... Anyhow, it wasn't a pretty sight when I put my lycra on!

This sunday I will hit my goal of 90 straight days on the bike. Almost 2000 miles and I have lost 35 pounds so far. This sunday I will do a 50 mile ride that includes almost 9000 feet of climbing. It will be a hard day for me, but the perfect ride to celebrate making it back onto the bike!

Anyhow, I know that I am NOT the greatest rider on the planet, but for me this was a pretty big deal and took ALOT of hard work and such to make it. I have had to put the guitar on hold while I did this and have really missed playing as well as hanging out here being an ass. So raise a glass for me if you get the chance on sunday, I will be celebrating by raising one for myself!

Thanks guys, it has been tough, but well worth the work.

I ride a Klein Q Pro with Campy Record on the road and a Klein Attitude with Deore XT off road John. Both are incredible bikes.

Oh well, time for the daily ride...see ya'll later!

Well done Chasbo, I think you might have inspired me to get back on my old Marin and get to cough up those lung oysters.

That's right! 90 days as of now! 52 mile ride today with 8000 feet of climbing! Just under 1800 miles for the last 90 days. Holy crap, that ain't too bad for a fat old guy! Everyone I know here told me I was either crazy or stupid, but I did it! Now all I have to do is keep it up and I will be alright. Thanks for all the kind words guys, I really appreciate them. I am going out to eat a plate of pollo azado and drinking the biggest, coldest beer in an hour. I bet it will be the best tasting beer I have had this year!

Chasbo - where are you riding to get those kinds of climbs? Congrats on the time in saddle and the mileage. I've really been slacking this year. My rides have been good, but few and far in between. The weather has been really up and down her in Minnesota this year - at least for biking.

I didn't even know Klein was still operating - you don't see them much any more since Trek bought them. I'm riding a couple 2005 Litespeeds - a Teramo with a 9-speed Dura Ace/Ultegra mix, and a Tuscany with full 10 speed Ultegra. Velomax wheels on both bikes -- not as "bling" as Mavic, but equal quality at a much lower price.

That's really great. It must feel really good to set a goal like that for yourself and accomplish it. Very awesome!

Klein is really a dead brand these days. My Q Pro is a couple years old. When it dies I am sure Trek will give me some lame OCLV frame in exchange. I will probably get a Gunnar frame then.

I ride between 2 big ridgelines here in central Maryland. I can get gobs of climbs that range anywhere from a half mile up to 4-5 miles. Great area for road biking.

The Negro Modelo and Pollo Azado were excellent. Now I am going to sit on my couch and C H I L L.
