  • Motley Crue in Helsinki = time travel to 1984

Some of you know that Motley Crue was scheduled to play in Helsinki at June 4th but it was cancelled because their gear was stuck in Italian customs.

The new date was June 7th.

The doors opened at 7 PM

The opening band started at 8 PM

    Motley started at 9:30 PM

It was a fucking hot day.

Die Hard fands were waiting in front of the arena since early morning.
Some were waiting in front of some hotel for hours where the band supposedly stayed in.

By the time it was 6 PM Helsinki looked like Sunset Strip in '84. It was like a fucking carnival.

In front of the arena there were folks who were jamming on guitars and blasting their stereos.

Boys and girls were putting on make-up (lipsticks, eye liners etc.) and SHITLOADS of hair spray.

Everyone had HUGE hair. I saw hair in every possible colour. Just look at old Motley Crue or Hanoi Rocks posters... and there were thousands of people who looked like that there.

Everyone was so rad and wicked.
Ripped jeans or leather pants, chains, bands, scarves, t-shirts or tank tops with band names or some punk rock sayings.
Lots of girls had short skirts and fishnet stockings. I also saw some with leopard and zebra skin spandex. Lots of tight tops and revealing blouses. Some looked like smokin' hot groupies from music videos.

I just stared my mouth open, it was fucking AWSOME!!!

When the Crue started it was MAGIC from the first second on. They were still like teenagers. Incredible amount of power and energy.

Holy fucking shit how well they played. Amazing team-work. This is how a rock band should function. They were so inrcredibly TIGHT that it wouldn't have mattered what notes they played. But they were dead on perfect.

And I don't get what's the deal with folks calling Vince a fat drunk who can't sing anymore. He looked and sang GREAT.

Top Notch stage presence, they really fill the stage, even Mick who can't move much.

The sound was probably the best I've ever heard in a rock concert.

Tommy Lee has by far the best modern rock drum sound. Tommy is a mad-man, lotsa groove, incredible power and the percision of a metronome. And he has a show element in every hit he makes. Did I mention POWER?!?!?!? You know he hits so hard that all the tom and snare skins last only one or two shows, same thing with most of the cymbals and cowbell. And the Ahead duralumin (material wich lots of flighter planes are made of) sticks he has (life time warranty if you buy 'em from music store).... he uses like five pairs per show... and all look like bananas after the show.

Mick's guitar sound was very FATTT and crunchy. You could hear every note. All the harmonics and whammy bar shit just screamed so well. A tone to die for. He played very well... he still is one of the tightest guitarists in the world.

Nikki is just unbeliveable. What a fucking great showmanship. His attitude and heavily bouncing bass sound really kicked my ass. Fukk, he is almost 50 but looks like 23.

Vince was all over the stage. And he was dead on. At times he sounded like 11 boy wich was funny as hell. A real rock'n'roll frontman.

They really know how to talk with the audience and how to make everyone go wild.
And it was fucking cool hearing girls yelling.... Nikki I wanna fuck you... Tommy I wanna fuck you...

I'm glad that bunch of old farts still play with balls and have a naive punk rock attitude.
They are no virtuosos, but they play tight, they are so tight as anal sex.
They are everything wich I'm looking from a rock band. Great show, lots of attitude, amazing teamwork and GREAT songs.
Oh yes, the fucking songs... they got 'em all... hooks, groove and melody. I was singing along so loud that my throat still hurts like a motherfucker.
And they GROOVE.... they made me want to dance.

I think every kid who picks up an instrument should see 'em because Motley Crue is a perfect example what rock'n'roll is all about.

Wish I could have been there!

Finland and Norway have a very rich urban fashion scene, so I can only imagine how cool they most have all looked!

    Did ya take any pics?
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

It would have been cool to see the "sunset strip".
I heard about a group of people going to Helsinki from my home town to see Mötley on monday and unfortunately found out that the show was cancelled. BUT, they ran into Vince Neil having dinner at a local restaurant instead. From what I hear he was very cool and friendly and posed for pictures and gave autographs.

                that sounds so killer.

did mick still use those killer beat up Floyded Strats?

i'm glad they're playing great now, i always heard that their live stuff was either killer or spotty.

yeah, he only used one guitar, it was his main one, beat up white floyded strat with maple board... it's one of my favourite guitars.

the last couple of tours he has used 3 guitars, the main one, then the same kind of strat but with rosewood board and the very cool looking gold top Les Paul with floyd

Wow, you must have cought Vince on an unusual night because even after working with a vocal coach he still can only seem to belt out about 1/2 the words to his more vocal intense songs like Shout at the Devil.

Vince misses words, cuz he runs on the stage like a maniac, but he hits the high notes and is in tune most of the time

but even if he would be out of shape, I can't really criticize him.... after all he is the dude who could fuck 3 groupies in 15 minutes in every given day

Maybe doing vibrato with his fingers tire him?
