  • Saw THE WORST BAND EVER last night, then Tool...

So I took my g/f to Atlantic City to see Tool, her favorite band. After a nice day of walking around on the beach and boardwalk, we decide to head in at around 7:30 as the show started at 8... boy was THAT a mistake.

The opening band for Tool... was... Melt Banana. Some Japaneese noise-rock band... more like sacriligeous earfuck. I have never heard something so horrid, skill-less and annoying in my life. The fact that they are considered a BIG band over there makes me lose what little faith I had left in humanity. Everyone in that venue deserves some of their money BACK for HAVING to sit through that shit.

If, like me, you enjoy looking and listening to trainwrecks, then by all means, check out their site: http://www1.parkcity.ne.jp/mltbanan/

But anyway, as always Tool fucking rocked, put on a great show, lasers smoke and all. They played for 2 hours straight, no encore. Always feel like I get my moneys worth when I see them!

Ha! I was recommended Melt Banana just the other day, but have never actually heard them! The bloke who had seen them said their guitarist is an electronics boffin who makes his own FX pedals but nobody knows what exactly he does to get his "unique" sound. Well, by your report, obviously, he just has a poo in his pedals!

Incidentally, Tool = Stool. Never again will I suffer their appalling racket. Sounded like someone having their nuts minced.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

    I nearly broke her back

melt banana sucks, they are not considered a big band either. big cult status band maybe, anyway they suck! they're in the same league as guitar wolf, meaning total stool.
speaking of stool, i hate them too :p
BTW i don't actually mean hate in the true sense of the word.

Melt Banana is pretty awesome. I guess you wouldn't like them if you don't like high energy punk. Plus Dave Witte plays drums in that band. He was in Human Remains, Discordance Axis, Municipal Waste, Burnt by the Sun, etc. If you are into metal/hardcore/grind just seeing him play is like watching the holy grail of grind or metal drummers.

Are you KIDDING ME? PUNK? LMFAO!!! That SHIT is NOT punk by any means. Its a bunch of unorganized noise and yelping. The drummer was OK, but when he came out to "guest" solo with Tool, he fucking SUCKED, was WAY off time and kept playing the same thing over and over again.

If he is the "holy grail" of grid then I guess thats why I never got into it. What a fucking joke.

Maybe Dave Witte isn't in that band anymore because he's in Municipal Waste. I think if he was he'd be hard to not notice. He's one of the tightest fastest drummers around.

Edit: and he can play fast forever -- no triggers like death metal cheaters.......or Lars

Tool's record sleeves are better than their songs. Although it must be a challenge to arrange 3 or 4 notes into whole songs like that.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

yeah I totally don't get the whole Tool thing.
singer's voice makes me want to head the other way, and the songs are either boring or, well, boring.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

I was never a big Tool fan either... but my mom had gotten free tickets to their last big show in this area, far be it for me to turn down a free concert, so I went... and was blown away. Amazing visuals, lasers, smoke, more screens than you could count, and live sound is terriffic... VERY tight band, usually right on the money. Just an all around good show... granted, its a different type of concert. Its not a high energy concert like Maiden for example, youre more going to watch the performance.

You like Tool. lol Of course they're 'tight'... how could they not be playing the commercial radio crap that they do?

You might have just as well said that you just saw Korn, Limp Bisktwit or Linkin Park and enjoyed it, IMO. :p

I'll have to go check out this Melt-Banana. lol

I saw Tool last year at Coachella. you are right, it was a good show, for about 60% of it. after that every song sounded the same and Maynard was what I guess is his typical sarcastic disdainful self and I got bored and I was really tired by that point and just sat down and vegged out.

glad I checked em out, but would not go again.
