As for the airsoft comment they are exact replicas of the real firearms so they get you a good feel for your hands but not for the recoil so its impratical to make your desicion on airsoft.

People tend to naturaly react to recoil different, some tend to twist their elbows so a revolver is prefered or some stay real stiff so the automatic is the way to go so shoot shoot shoot.

I am a TRUE believer in "night sights". They are standard issue in most police departments, and I can confirm why.

I was involved in a major firefight with a drunken off-duty CMHA officer. This guy had two Glocks that he unloaded on us. One was a .40 cal. with laser sights and one was a standard 9mm with open sights.

It was one of the largest, if not the largest gun fight in Cleveland Police history. Well over 90 rounds were exchanged.

I owned several firearms with laser sights and they are nothing but a pain in the ass. They get bumped, dropped, and even the recoil of the weapon can throw off the aim of the laser..I know this personally, and even tried using "lock tight" after tweaking them several times without success..my father as well.

I STRONGLY advise that any novice shooter should start out with fixed or adjustable "open sights"....PERIOD!!!

Sigs are very nice, I've owned and shot many. But they don't do anything a S & W, Baretta, or even a Taurus can't (good bang for the buck)..they are very well made and extremely afforbale..trust me, the person your shooting won't know the difference.

My father picked up a sweet stainless .38 Taurus stainless snub for my sis..he took her shooting and she did VERY well with it..she just got her carry permit. He paid around $260 for it..it's like brand new.

At the time of my shooting it was at 1:00AM, very dark, pouring rain and my prescription glasses were dripping wet..I was approx 60' away from this asshole shooting at me and my partner.

It was the "night sights" that abled me to align and see my target..that was shooting at me. I spent more than 20+ rounds and was unaware that I did a "emergency reload" until after the fact..due to much redundant training until it became like second nature.

After my shooting I felt VERY naked and gave my S&W .38 5 shot Airweight bodygaurd back to my father. I insisted to carry my service 9mm for almost two years, because I spent 5 rounds in two seconds. I finally relaxed and got my 5 shot Airweight back from my dad and still carry it. I carried that thing for approx. 15 years or so. It's a great piece..fits nicely in my levis pocket or the inner pocket of my jacket. If I ever go anywhere fucked up (ghetto)..I'll grab a speed loader too..or just grab my Baretta 92 and a clip with "night sights".

      In short..NO laser bullshit!!!!

The asshole CMHA cop shooting at me had a two Glocks , one with a laser and he was trained as well. I had one service S&W 9mm with "night sights"...I won!!

I got to meet and know my son who was born a few months later..and meet you fuckers..That shit was close!!!

      Night sights..or just open sights!!!!!

I do respect your opinion John but please don't blow this situation out of proportion. I know the players, their temperments, their goals, their biases, and their histories thus I'm in a position to make fairly accurate estimates of what their future behavior will be. FWIW I've accurately predicted every gambit they'd employ over the past couple of years so I feel fairly comfortable with my assessment of the situation. As I've said earlier: I doubt that it will come to actual violence, in my estimation it is unlikely that the situation will progress past the point of verbal threats and threatening / intimidating behavior.

LE is concerned because one of the players has been in regularly lately with "some very odd requests" including attempts to post bail for some of the local criminal element, they became more alarmed when we informed them that his father had become quite senile upon reaching this person's current age. It's possible (but far from certain) that we may be dealing with someone who is not completely in control of his actions or who may have only a tenuous grasp on reality. We just don't know nor does local LE, that's the wildcard in this situation. None of us can predict if or when this person might go off the deep end but that does not, IMHO, merit packing up and leaving, it merits rational steps to protect ourselves in the unlikely event that the worst should come to pass.

The issue that prompted LE's suggestion is that this potentially unbalanced person has begun skulking around at night near some of our work sites. One evening last week he parked on a public road near my sister and stayed there observing her for some length of time. On several other occasions he has done the same thing to her while she is alone working late at night. Those situations aren't entirely avoidable so, once again, taking rational steps in an attempt to ensure one's own protection seems to be the best course of action.

No no no you misunderstood my comment, by all means choose your weapon based on experiences with real guns. I was saying that once you get your carry weapon, pickup an airsoft replica of that gun to do situational training with it and to get used to the draw and alignment of sights on a human target without the danger of a real gun.

'Kin 'ell, bad news to have a family that sound like they are going to be world-famous pretty soon. And to think they say that blood is thicker than water. Obviously not when it's going to be flying everywhere.

Is this one o' them thar hillbilly feuds because someone made a comment about another's goat having a purty mouth, or over rights to a still? I believe a blunderbus loaded with nails is the trad weapon of choice.

I have to say I agree with jgcable, tooling up has got to be the worst option, how long is your family going to be twitchy with a gun in their pocket? Until the problem gets resolved? Might be a loooong time, better get round there now and have a gunfight, get it over with. Try not to spray too much lead about, keep the dead innocent bystander count low.

This is 2007, not 1887. Explore every other avenue before tooling up family members who have no experience, that's the best way I can think of to have a "friendly fire" incident.

Whatever you do, keep your head on (and down).
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

              I nearly broke her back

Wow, you're pretty much an ass aren't you... That is just a pretty rude thing to say, that has no value (either side of this thread), and "smacks" of trolling to get a rise from people....

About the only reasonable thing in that whole post.

Reading your logic, I see why government does restrict firearms over there. Probably best...

Actually it's a dispute over a couple million dollars worth of land and another business with an FMV of around $12M. Now run along back to your wage slave job and leave making serious money to the big boys.
