    Roman Guitars Closing
(Port Washington, NY - June 14, 2007) Las Vegas-based Ed Roman Guitars, known as “The World’s Largest Guitar Store,” began liquidating its assets on June 13. This comes six months after Roman sold the business to a company operating area car dealerships. According to Roman, nine employees were let go in May, followed by 13 more on June 13. Roman believes a car dealership will replace his store, due to the potential for more profits.
“I want everyone to know I’ll be back and everything will be made whole,” said Roman. “I am in the process of buying my name back. I didn’t sign any non-compete clause, so I hope to reopen a store, although it won’t be as large as my last one.”
According to Roman, his potential new store would also open in the Las Vegas area.
"Buying my name back." lol. That shouldn't cost too much as the value is near $0.

    After reading that article.......

-I wasn't aware that he sold the business to car dealership people six months ago. Interesting
-It sounds like he is going to get into selling cars, but...
-That quote at the end makes it sound like he wants to get back into guitar selling.

    ?

I just checked his website and don't see any mention of the closure.

Edit: after re-reading I think I get it. He is saying that he thinks the car dealership people will convert it to a car dealership.

Uhhh, I'm not seeing anything that indicates he's gone. He sold his physical store to a car dealership conglomerate and fired all his people, yet he states he's going to reopen another, smaller, guitar shop.

That doesn't indicate to me that he's gone. Temporary doesn't count as "gone". "Gone" is gone for good, like dead or in the Pen or leaving the musical instrument retail business.

Maybe he's going to take over that guy's Boy Band Empire?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but this line almost sounds like bankruptcy

He might have cut his losses prematurely to avoid complete insolvency. Any way you look at it, I'm sure he was in some sort of trouble. I find it hard to imagine he'd give up his store otherwise, considering his humongously gigantic ego.

I hate to burst the bubble here guys but it sounds like Ed is the one who is laughing here

                      1. He sold the Business 6 months ago (ok that means he made a ton of money and washed his hands of it)

                      2. Now the business is closing (why would he care...not his anymore?)

                      3. There is no non-compete which means he can open again and make even more money

Sounds like he won to me....sorry

+1. Sounds like he sold out of necessity, but still didn't have enough to meet all of his debts and filed for bankruptcy.

                          Sucks to be him.

He had a booth at the Dallas show in April, and he was manning the booth with his wife and a couple employees, so he must still have something to do with the business. Not that I really care, but he was an asshole to me over the phone when I wanted Steinberger parts years ago.

He also had a big booth at NAMM in January, and that was only 5 months ago. So at that point I guess he still thought he had a business.

Sounds to me that he sold the land that his business was on, then the owners decided not to give the lease a renewal, leaving him to move or close.
The mention of nocompete is odd considering he has been makeing appearances for the business.
