      Hardly.

Bankruptcy laws have been rewritten so that they benefit the preferred shareholders of a company. In Europe, it is illegal to raid the pension funds, but in the US it is now legal if you declare bankruptcy. Also, during bankruptcy, you can basically devalue all common stock to zero so that the only remaining legal owners of the company are the preferred shareholders. Bankruptcy is now a byzantine set of laws that major shareholders of corporations use to drain the assets of a company to line their own pockets.

Well I think you just proved my point, but really I'm quite apolitical. You might be surprised to know I own guns too and I was one of the few Canadians who supported going into Iraq. I don't just have a thing against right wing politicians, I've found politicians of all stripes abandon their ideals when it is expedient to do so. Anyways, I'll miss Ed Roman's rants.

Of course George, corporations must be empowered to benefit the wealthy at all costs.

The little dude prolly sold the land for a pretty penny (not too far from the Strip), filed for chapter 11, used the windfall from the dirt to buy his own inventory at pennies on the dollar - with plenty of ching left over for new digs and a nice vacation.

Being relatvley new to the board and not knowing the story, I'll take a guess at what happened. I would think that Ed came after the forum because of the truth they exposed about him, his guitars, and his business and probably threatened to sue them for "defamation of character and Libel". Knowing the man's ego and reading about his tactics with other boards, I would guess I'm close. I have to admit his shop in Vegas was sweet, but talk about doing business the wrong way. It's sad actually, he was on to a great idea (not to mention being levels above the Big Box gear stores), but very poorly executed.

                  Close...

Back in the AMIC days there was a brief time where the JCF was housed on the motherships server. Ed was earning himself quite a reputation of being a dick and it was popping up on the board. Ed didn't like that and being a big Jackson dealer he tried to get Jackson to pull the board. The problem was that they didn't own the board so they had no say over the content .. Shortly after that the JCF moved to ChicagoWebs where we have remained ever since. As luck would have it FMIC purchased JCMI and then claimed everything on the server was theirs because they bought it from AMIC ... So had we not moved we probably would have lost the board ...

FWIW Ed years prior was being watched for forging NOS charvels. Seems anytime ECMM had ony they never seemed to have plates or anything and they were dead clean. I used to call Sandy back in the day at the CS to let her know when new stuff would pop up @ ECMM .....

Kinda like all his BCR overstock ...
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

But things have changed since then as the internet has come a long way. Info about a company/person spreads like wildfire now. That bad rep *HAS/HAD* to hurt his business to a large degree. People who had trouble with him, don't go back. And all the other people hear from those people, and they never go there in the first place.
I think part of it is his staff weren't the @ssholes that Ed apparently is. When I went to the shop in April the guy I talked with was really cool, showed me around. But they had no customers so he may not have had anything better to do. No matter what Ed's rep is, if someone goes in there and gets someone who's not ed who is actually cool, that'll still bring in business. I was lucky enough I didn't see ed nor have any dealings. But then again I went to look not buy from him anyway
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

While I'm glad he's out of business, it's sad to read that he's threatening to come back. But if he does come back, I'm betting the forgeries department will be the first area open for business. I can imagine it's his main profit center.

Wow that's harsh - i thought people are usually just made redundant after a company goes under...

actually i saw where another guitar co.s CEO said that for the last 6 months or so, (must be after ed sold it to the new owner) that the whole system at ERG was working better than it ever did and they were moving more of their units than ever.

Actually, the funny move would be for the JCF to buy the rights to "Ed Roman Guitars", wouldn't it?
