Apparently there is going to be a big Brad Delp tribute show in Boston with all kinds of special guests. Capping the night was supposed to be the full original band (less Delp of course) playing "Don't Look Back" together for the first time since the split.

Seems Scholtz is putting all kinds of demands on it. The money is supposed to go to the Brad Delp foundation but he want's a say in where it goes etc and he won't give permission for the other members to perform the song ...

Crazy stuff considering on the Extreme Reunion in Boston 3 Orig members came out and played R&R Band. Maybe because Delp held ownership in the song ...

Spokesgal Gail Parenteau said Scholz was “very flattered” to be invited to perform at the show but needed some assurances about the charity the concert would benefit and other technicalities before signing off.
She said Scholz was also concerned that the press release not mislead fans into thinking the concert was a Boston reunion show - and that it make clear that the original band members would only do one song together.

I think Tom was right to be wary of this. What is the "Brad Delp Foundation?" Sounds like it might be Delp's kids' trust fund.

Kinda hard to have sympathy anyway for a former rock star — who has kids, a girlfriend, and had a wife — who kills himself because he's "lonely."

Being "lonely" just means he had deeper issues. While i understand the suicide is a selfish thing I also understand not everyone identifies and gets help for their problems. Maybe if people focused on the fact that he had depressive issues he'd still be alive.

I came close 2 yrs ago myself. I had gotten pretty depressed and a good friend of mine finally talked me into getting help. In my case it was help myself and do what I need or I won't be here anymore... Was I being selfish thinking that way? Maybe but it seemed more logica than the hell i was suffering through daily ..

Scholz has been known as a putz (albeit a brillant one) for a very long time. For instance there was a local rumor that when RTZ had done their album and Scholtz threatened to not deliver the next Boston Album if they got behind it and pushed it. RTZ being fairly new the album was released with very little P.R because the band Boston was a hot item

The whole thing went down because Brad was working with Barry. FWIW Barry and Brad were married to sisters and they were very close. It was something that irked Tom tremendously ...

AWAITING CONFIRMATION OF BRAD DELP TRIBUTE APPEARANCE



We are expecting a confirmation within a few days of a tribute for
Brad Delp planned by his son and daughter. In response to their
invitation, BOSTON has offered to play a short set on Aug 19th along
with a number of other artists they have invited, although the list of
acts and other details of the event have not been confirmed as of yet.
We understand the venue has been changed to the Pavilion on Boston
Harbor, formerly Harbor Lights.



BOSTON is going ahead with preparations to appear; we plan to perform
six or seven songs. Michael Sweet (Stryper), Mickey Thomas (Jefferson
Starship), and Sammy Hagar have all offered to sing for BOSTON in
place of Brad. We have also invited Barry Goudreau, Fran Sheehan, and
Sib Hashian to join us on stage for the last song, "Don't Look Back,"
which will be sung by Fran Cosmo.



All of us are currently very busy with other projects, including
completing some new BOSTON studio recordings. However, we are excited
about getting together for this short performance, and will make time
to get it together by August 19th.

While people that have never been depressed or on the edge of killing themselves might never, ever understand what goes through a person's mind and what drives them to commit "THE" act.
I does not remove the logic in that person's mind, that for all practical purposes could be the only way out for sure. Sometimes there is no way but that way because the person has reaching a point of thermal runaway and at the end of the day there is a good chance there is nobody available to help you.

People that come here and go everywhere saying suicide is a selfish act have probably never been to the edge and look down at the river of fire. It is pretty fucking scary but peaceful at the same time.

Tom should get off his MIT, I am musical genius, rockstar pedestal and pay tribute to a fallen friend. Who gives a fuck where the money goes?!, to the wife, kids, girlfriend or cat. The money is not coming out of his pocket and the least he can do is get on stage with his former brothers and say goodbye to a good man and friend and forget about the 'ol mighty dollar.

Maybe he's not concerned that the money's NOT going to his family, but rather to the promoter or Brad's agent or someone else's pocket. Ever think of that?
