you cannot just simply bring your car to the track, that's an unrealistic oversimplification.

Here in the US you can. In NJ, Englishtown has open street car drags all the time. Pay a fee, wear a helmet and have fun.

Oh, and the road course is almost completed being built and they also have Drifting. So now, is there still an excuse for street racing?

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong.

Again, I cannot imagine that this is legal at all, confiscating and destroying a car?
I don't like how you raise your kids in that house, take them away and burn down the house?

WTF law allows them to confiscate and destroy them.

Please tell me the story leaves out the charges, trial, and amount of time elapsed between an arrest and car crushing.

At our local strip you can go pretty much any weekend and take whatever you want down the track. You pay your $15 for your membership card, they do a quick inspection of your vehicle to ensure that it's safe, and you're good to go.

            i'm american btw
so you can race without passing tech inspection? even the silver state classic has pretty strict tech inspection and that's a fairly safe place to race. i am surprised. these guys don't want to just drag though.

what is would fear is even if a kid is getting pulled over for doing stupid stuff, chances are he will. But, if he thinks if he does pull over, he will have his car destroyed .... the chances of him trying to out run a cop have increased, and the chances of a fatality have increased. Not a real smart deturrent by law enforcement. i would think time in a ER to see what a mangled body is all about from racing.

So the police saw a stolen transmission, the kid produces a receipt for it, and they crush his car? There has to be some steps missing. The police have to prove things and even then they can only repossess the transmission, not the whole car.

I'm thinking the cops said "hey if you let us smash your car, we'll give you $10000 and drop any charges."

Sometimes they are going twice the speed of other traffic on the road and weaving in and out like they are on their way to a fire. I have also seen plenty of accidents, several fatals, from high up in my tower. I can see why cops are taking drastic measures. Many of these young guys are a danger to themselves, and sadly, every other motorist out there.
Sums things up nicely. Again, F'em!

I highly doubt the cops just grabbed their cars and crushed them just because they were racing.
I'm sure the idiots in this story went to court and lost.
As the story stated, most of the cars were not "street legal" to begin with.
That alone gives the DOT the right to confiscate the vehicle.

As for track racing... there are a couple of places here that have "run what you brung" nights. Street legal or not.
If it's not street legal, you have to tow or trailer it in.
They do perform a safety inspection though.
                      Pretty fun stuff.

I need the state to protect me from me that is why I live in The People's Republic of California.

I trust the state will protect me and take away my car if I drive it too fast because I am too weak to make my own desicions so I count on the state to make them for me.

In fact I should check with the state to see what is the approved mode of transit.
