What kinda of laws are in place for a guy that wants to bring a non-California car into cali?

Whats street legal in most states, is not street legal in Cali, originally for emissions. I bet if those were non-cali cars, registered in other states, and those were part-time college residents, that could have not happened.

I love racing but I will never do it if I am not on a track. That is just stupid.

Do you guys mean real racing or drag "racing" ?

You used to be able to pickup smog certificates for your cars for next to nothing and never hook it up to the machine but there is no way to do it now in the state of California. If it has a California plate on it that means that there emmision standards pass DOT fed, as well as Cali emmisions testing. Its a big racket and there are no loop holes regarding out of state cars if your here more than 10days it has to be registered in the state I know I have tried. ( (96 Nissan Skyline GTR)

I was heavily involved with racing old and new cars and had to sell a few of my non compliant cars after SMOG II was enacted, its funny the performances parts actually make the car run more efficiantley with lower emmisions but wont pass "Visual Inspection" also the parts have to be now CARB compiant with the stupid sticker and I can go on as to how this sucks...

In fact I should check with the state to see what is the approved mode of transit.
Well, in this case, it's the legislators that you (collectively) voted for that created this law (which I think is brilliant). Isn't that how the United States works? Same as the law in that one town that requires everyone to carry a firearm. If you don't agree with it you can vote the lawmakers out or start a referendum or move. The only issue is whether the law is Constitutional or not. I am not a lawyer, but in this case, I don't think there is anything un-Constitutional about it. Just an odd ball penalty tied to a particular offense. Nothing really different between this penalty and a large fine except for the symbolic nature.

Well, they're doing it, and you can bet there's an entire Law Firm that is backing the police on this one.

And take the kids! Some people shouldn't be allowed to have kids. Or pets...

Here in the Twin Cities, we have a large number of these types of "vehicles". They are a danger to the public in ENTIRELY TOO MANY INSTANCES. Period. Not just the way they are driven, but also in the way they are put together. Chicken wire and duct tape is not a good idea for something "high performance".

They are a menace. Drive within the law = keep your POS car.

I see alot of this crap all the time. With sport bikes too. Some dumbass passed my wife and myself on a bike and at about 75 he jumps off and rides along next to it hanging onto the bike. He was looking at us waiving. He must have had spoecial shoes or something... Then he rides a wheelie and stands up on the seat. We are doing like 70 mind you and there are plenty of cars around too. He must of had a cruise control or throttle lock on when he was dragging himself along the side of the bike. If he had to let go the bike would have been like a cruise control unguided missle. It would /could have killed someone. Completely stupid. I don't wish any harm on anyone but it would have been fun to see him get nailed by a cop and watch them crush his bike... heh heh heh ...

The state of California has completely ignored the constitution by saying no thank you we have our own, disregarding our basic civil rights especially the 2nd and 4th ammendment.

We in California vote on feel good statements and emotion not what is logical all I can do is vote indepent and conservative tough things out and hope things change.

Yes cruel and unusual(Sp?) punishment is taking your property you paid for and destroying it in front of you, Unconstituational all the way.

Also as of July 1st no more talking on your cell phone in your car so now the cops have another reason to pull you over and hassle you. If I was a criminal I would understand but taxpayers like me are the ones getting crapped on the criminals dont care.

Define "no more talking on your cell phone in your car".
If they mean not at all vs must use a hands free device, yea... that would piss me off.
Most people are incapable of holding a cell phone to their head and driving at the same time.
These people usually drive really expensive sports cars or large SUV's and try and run into me on a daily basis.
These gene pool rejects should not be allowed to own, let a lone use, a cell phone.

"no more talking on your cell phone in your car".
Means no holding the cell phone with your hand and driving. You can use a hands free device. I know stupid people talk and cant drive while holding a cell phone but I dont want the cops to be wasting my tax payer dollars enforcing more laws that are just lame and unconstitutional, in Los Gatos they cited someone for smoking inside their own home because someone called and complained that the smoke was bothering them outside.(This was in the downtown area were smoking is prohibited outdoors.

We dont need more laws it means less freedom and more reasons for cops to stop and check you out then shake you down. Every year the state of California passes 1000 more laws to protect you from yourself.(True Fact)

That smoking one is scary, but I'm sure it will die in court, if it even gets that far.
As for the driving thing, I agree that hands free devices should be used.
Should the police be pulling everyone over for it... not really.
But if it's obvious the person is incapable of operating their car and the cause is them fumbling with their phone... yeah... nail the moron.
The license plate bolt indentations on the back of my bumper are courtesy of a twit and her cell phone.

Well I did a research presentation in high school on using cell phones while driving. It was right around, maybe right before they started that law in new york. I'll just say I totally agree with those laws. I don't remember all the detail, but there was some tests done showing the peopel were worse than drunks at about 1.5x the limit, hitting cones, bad reaction time, checking mirrors less frequently...

You mean like the way they'll make you pour your beer out on the road when they catch you with an open container? Fuck, I should have argued with that cop more!

Cases that have been brought forth to the Supreme Court regarding the 8th amendment (cruel and unusual punishment) include life imprisonment for 1st possession of cocaine and executing minors (among others). Crushing these cars in front of their owners is hardly in the same league I don't think. Just my 2 cents.

Now I am involved in the "Import World" and Do drive a Car(and a not that easy to find Import) out at the track. Now I can tell ya I have been involved in a/some "Hissy Fits" on the street, but shut down VERY quick. It is like flooring it to the speed limit and thats it.I dont want to risk a Mother/Child's Life, and My own and My Car. If they want to continue, let them,I am done. It is bad everywhere,(Street Racing in Omaha is Horrible,Hence a few Street Racing DVDs come from)and the Motorcyclists are worse. The weave in and out of traffic, accelerate quick, wheelies, etc. It is sad to see anyone's Pride and Joy,no madder what it is get destroyed.Period. As for the "Stolen"items,I am highly doubting it.People need to think with their head, not their Ego.Plain and simple,Take it to the track,it is ~ $20.00 some places dont require to wear a helmet, and you have bragging rights on what times you run. R.I.C.E Not a Racist comment. It means (R)ace (I)nspired (C)osmetic (E)nhancements.I even have Car Parts Tattoo'ed on me! That shows how much of a Die Hard Import Fan I am.

We are not talking about consumables(beer) we are talking about property and some peoples livelyhoods depends on their cars and the next step up is their homes(Some homes are their cars).

I personally think its funny to see these guys cars get crushed, like I said. I dont think its very american but hey its a good laugh at others expense.
