Another Trial Delay

Well now I don't want to get any controversy started here, but for those interested in updates on my case - here you go.

The judge allowed the second set of attorneys to withdraw and a new attorney has been hired. They had a status hearing last Thursday to see if there is any estimate for the trial to start. Well, this new guy says he needs "months" to go through the 6,700 pages of documents and 90 DVDs worth of evidence. The next status hearing is August 9. He is however still sitting in jail in solitary and still getting his pay. (Rather than give him a disciplinary hearing where he gets a practice run at the evidence and the witnesses/victims they chose to put him on paid leave).

Ugg, as long as he is in Jail. I am sure anything he is getting paid isn't going to be shit against the lawyer bills he will have. I bet all his previous Lawyers all recommended he plea it out and that is why he fires them.

I admire your strength in a judicial system that has gone Mad. I have been following this since you posted the first, I think. I just don't know what to say other than keep up the fight. Justice may prevail.

I agree that it's a good thing he's still in jail. I also agree that it's likely his former attorneys recommended a plea before withdrawing, and that his legal fees should dwarf his salary. While I am sure this is frustrating, it still appears that you are in a superior position. Keep up the good fight!

His first attorney withdrew due to "personal health problems" that he was going to need surgery or something like that for. He is still working other cases.

The second set dropped out due to "financial concerns" that Pelo would not be able to pay their fees.

He's been in the county jail for about 11 months now and is expected to stay there until convicted or found not guilty. I do feel a bit better knowing he's sitting behind bars. Especially since the State's Attorney's office was required to provide the defense with all current contact information for each of the witness/victims.

IIRC this asshat had a wife and kids. If so then him getting paid is at least supporting them in some manner and unless they are some totally whacked family then they were no part of the attack and are probably wrecked - I don't begrudge them some cash while this gets settled.

I'm not sure what you mean but I wasn't trying to stir up any shit. I have not followed all of the threads on this so if this is a subject that gets people pissed off then someone should just yank my post.

No, this is ongoing and is tragic. I guess this is the side for the victim and not the accused. What happens to his side and all the people he messed over is not the issue here.

Yes, he does. But this is getting off the wall in delays. This back and forth does nothing but leave everyone hanging. It not right and it's not fair for either side.

Unfortunately the way the cout system works, the only people that legally have a right to a speedy trial is the defendant. In this situation, it's been the defense that had kept postponing the trial.

And as for the money - in my opinion, his kids are victims too, a different kind of victim, but I'm sure they are suffering. The wife, she seems either completely naive or is covering. His excuse for being caught outside a woman's home at almost 1 AM was that he was house hunting - the place wasn't for sale or rent. His wife came out and said oh yes he goes house hunting in the middle of the night all the time. But again, I don't know what her home life has been like.
