      • My wife & I have lost close loved ones (her dad in April, & my son March 2004). It sucks big time. My condolances to those he touched here & his family.

I only new him from the board. He always seemed cool. Oddly I thought he was older more my age (mid 30s or so).

        RIP Donnie

This weekend I'm running another 1/2 marathon and it's going out to my rockstar nephew!
In november I ran a full marathon (26.2 miles) and I raised about $650 for a charity that helps transplant victims. This race I didn't have time to put together money for a charity. But I'm rockin the shit out of this one for Donny. I hope to finish in under 1:30:00 which would be a personal best by 4 minutes. My knee has been bothering me, but the damn thing has to fall off before it'll stop me from finishing this in rockstar fashion.
Knee pain? Big fucking deal, nothing compared to what he went through many times in his life, I'll be thinking about it every mile that I feel pain from that fast pace.

Congrats Lori, your gonna make the perfect bride. Donny will be right there with you tomorrow!!!

Congrats Lori amd good luck to you in your marathon Brad. I am sure Donny will be right there with BOTH of you!

                • I didn't know him but I knew his username, and since I barely post here anymore it means I noticed him somehow. This thread made me teary eyed, it's really not fair what happens sometimes. My sympathies to his family and friends.

                      • Race report, Bellevue 1/2 marathon. Well, you win some battles, and you lose some.

                        Today was full of both.
After running only once in two weeks due to a sore hamstring, and that run resulting in another injury (IT band soreness), I feel lucky to have even finished. That's a first for me, feeling lucky I finished?

This was one year since my first race ever, and the same race (Bellevue).
Last year I ran 1:43:37 I think. On mothers day (Kirkland) I had my 1/2 marathon time down to 1:33:47 and was hoping for 1:30:00 today as the course is flatter than Kirkland. Well the two weeks off helped my injuries, but not running left me with no cardio and I just ran out of steam today. I was so week the last 3 miles of the 13.1.
So, a respectable 1:37:59 is where I finished.

Another battle lost was that I wanted to ROCK out a new PR in Donny's memory (pun intended). Didn't happen. BUT, I guess you could say it was a PR for that course..... :-)
Either way, I displayed the double horns at the finish for my race photo in his honor. In a way it was fitting, I was battered and tired, but I still finished with an ok time despite being injured twice in two weeks and had little miles in before the race. He battled hard and rocked out those 25 years like nobody else could, I'm proud of him.

                        RIP Donny.

                        • I had a blue guitar pick of Donny's with me (something old, something blue!) at my wedding... He was definitely there with me.

Brad - that cd looks WONDERFUL.

Brad, I have problems with my IT bands as well. I did a sprint triathlon and had to walk the last mile because my knees were in so much pain. sucked too because everyone i passed on the bike leg passed me on the run. Anyway, my father in law does half marathons and he swears by this book/dvd called "Chi Running". This guy who does ultra marathons teaches you how to run "properly". Supposedly, his students can run regularly completely injury free. I saw a few minutes of the DVD and it looked like it was on the up and up.

Ahh, SO glad you like it Lori.

I am burning 50, and am unsure if all will be given away at the memorial, so afterwards I'll let everyone know how many I have left if you guys want one.
