I've had a phone with pretty much all of these same capabilities for almost 2 years - including the touch screen. A touch screen phone is not a good thing. Having real buttons is much better IMO. I'll be switching phones shortly.

How is the iPhone screen in bright sunlight? I have never seen an LCD display that was practically usable in sunlight.

I'm with you in that, I have had a few touchscreen phones, and I hated them. This thing is just different. I wasn't going to get one at 1st(and I've been Mac only for about 7 years now). I was in there because my son wanted one. Well after messing around with one for a few minutes, I was hooked.

Yes, it doesn't do anything any other phone doesn't, but it does do those things in a way no other phone does it. The interface is just cool, it just flat out works. It's simple the web pages look well like web pages look. The email looks like real email.

It isn't perfect, but because it's hooked up to itunes. updates will be easy, and frequent for the common user(not just geeks). They actually have a feedback forum, so if you have ideas they are listening.

I have been playing around with it outside today. Here in L.A it's clear and sunny and about 80 degrees right now. I have had no problems with screen washout. Even with the sun reflected from the screen I can still see it. Remember that the screen is high quality optical glass, it isn't plastic. So it seems to handle the sun better. Another cool thing, is that the SIM card is easily taken out. So I can swap it to my other ATT phones if I don't feel like taking this one with me.


If you are a hardcore business phone user, maybe this isn't for you. If you want a cool phone that is also an ipod and has a UI that is just way beyond any other phone. Then check it out

I am not. ATT is swamped with sigh-ups. I think those people that wait awhile to get their new "Who gives a Fuck Phone" are correct. We have lived a long time without an iPhone. What's the rush?

I'm getting a kick out of the morons on eBay that are buying these things at stupid high prices.
It's not like they are even close to being sold out... get off your ass and go get one, or buy one online from Apple directly. Sheep I tell ya... sheep!

There's already one guy on one of the Mac boards in Australia asking how to unlock it. He bought one off eBay thinking he could get it unlocked to work with his carrier down there.
We all asked him to tell us how he likes his $1,000.00 (that's what he paid) paperweight when he gets it. :ROTF:

The cool part of the iphone is that if it does crap out. You go in exchange it, pop out the old sim card put it in the new one. Sync it and voila your new phone is exactly like the old one. The only thing you may have to do, is go in and change the wallpaper to whatever was on your old on.

Also for some reason alot of people seem to think that the sim card in the iphone can't be taken out easily or used in another phone. Not the case at all. It comes out extremely easy, and it works in all my other phones perfect. So if they don't have a new iphone in stock to swap out, just put your sim card in a older phone till the new one comes in.

A) they cannot be unlocked
B) the SIM card is not removable
C) they will ONLY work on tthe AT&T network

there will surely be someone hacking the phones and unlocking them the moment they are out.

You cannot "unlock" these. They shipped de-activated.
They require an AT&T account (verified)
While I'm sure someone will be able to "hack it", the SIM card is embedded, which means you cannot replace it with a SIM card from another carrier.
So what's the point of unlocking it if you can't replace the SIM card?
The ESN and IMEA numbers are etched onto the case.
