  • Can't Believe I'm Saying This, Kudos To MS...

they finally caved and extended the warranty on the POS Xbox360 to 3 years.

Too bad mine was only 13 months old (and at the time out of warranty) when it died for NO FUCKING REASON. They wanted 139 (and I had to ship it out) and they would fix it OR send me a refurbished POS.

Luckily the local game store manager knows me and just rolled his eyes when I told him my Xbox crashed. He just handed me a brand new one for my old one and said "Good luck with this one". It's been 6 months and so far it's been ok...

I was watching the channel "G4" the other day and they always put shit at the bottom of the screen. News and stuff. It said something to the effect that 3 out of 5 Xbox 360s fail. Not a great track record. Hopefully the Zune is doing better than that...

Id love to know what people are doing to these things. Mine has been fine for a little under year. And hell I kicked it over it hard twice and it didn't mark up the disk that was in it (granted it wasn't running). Still, they SHOULD offer to extended warranty to those who have bought one in the past year. Of course M$ won't but it would sure be a nice thing.

Well, mine sat in a dust free environment with a cooler fan and I have no kids in the house (other than myself as my wife would point out )...

One day I turned it on and BAM!, three red lights of death.

And to credit MS, they DID extend the warranty to 3 years (that was the point of the article linked above), so you should be safe with yours CR...

Ah, I didn't catch that the first time. So yeah that was pretty cool of them. And sucks about what happened to yours. Its hit or miss with them it seems.

CR, there's been a huge problem with them overheating and crashing, hence extending the warranty.

I bought one 1-1-06 and it died in March or April of 06. It didn't recognize any 360 disc, but original XBox games worked just fine. I looked around online and read horror stories of having to wait 2 months or more for warranty repair/replacement, and since I was in the middle of Oblivion, I went ahead and bought another one (which I had intended to do at some point anyway, just not so fast ) to use while I waited for my original one to be repaired.

I still haven't sent the old one off, even though they extended the warranty to August of 07 (next month)

Guess I have another year to put it off then?

I have been very lucky. About a week after initial launch, I picked up a core system at Walmart (one was just sitting out on the counter back in electronics). Even though I had to spring extra for the hard drive, wireless controller, and component cable, I had to have it right then.

So far, the system has done fine for me. I did buy one of the clip on set of fans for it though. Fortunately, through midnight to 6a.m. sessions of GRAW and GRAW2, I have had no problems.

Do you guys stand yours up, or sit it horizontally? A few people on the Xbox forums swear that leaving one standing up on its end contributes to the failure, but it sounds like BS to me.

I bought one of the originals back in Nov 05. It died 6 months later. In March my wife called MS and asked for a supervisor. She told them the story and gave the serial #. They sent a prepaid box to send the old one in and in a week we received a new machine, not a refurb. Funny thing is that I totally disassembled the old one and tried to fix it. Since it was one of the original run 360s done on 22 Nov 05 they didnt care.

I kept my original one on its side, but could get it to read 360 discs by tilting it or standing it on edge. By the time I got a Pelican FanStand for it, it was too late and the manufacturing defects shone through.

I keep my current one on its edge and a new FanStand (old one started making noise) and have had no trouble out of it.

If you don't have a fan under it, then yes standing it up is bad, which is the extremely important detail the Chicken Littles on the XB forums always neglect to mention.

What's odd is that MS says not to use the Nyoko Intercooler because it can void your warranty, yet that's all you can find anymore.

For a minute there I thought I was going to have to send my 2nd 360 back! Turns out my TV is crapping out on me: lol:

Ah well, maybe that 52" for $797 at WalMart was meant to be mine after all!
