The key is sniping, and when you snipe don't go $1 asbove the other guy's high bid; go $50 so he can enter multiple bids to outbid you. Then again, just because he beat you by $1 doesn't mean he only bid $1 more than you. He might have had a max bid $50 more than you were willing to go, you just don't know.

Depending on how bad you want it, you have to decide whether to bid above your max. If you decide later you'd have gone another $20 it does no good, so you have to commit to a little more than you really want to pay sometimes.

If I really want something. I find that bidding 25% over the highest bid as your Max will do it. That's assuming you really, really want it. I only got hung once.

you have to set a mental limit before you start bidding. and simply refuse to exceed it. and yeah the sniping (I do it whenever I can - ) and .51 increments work.

to do otherwise is to end up overspending, then you feel like shit anyway.
