Yeah I figured but how is it possible to like Xtown metal...? I mean it's possible to like a lot of the bands but it makes very little sense. It's like saying 'if you like American cars, try this'. Dunno seems weird to me. Never heard of Bay area thrash either. I'm guessing Californian stuff?

The San Francisco Bay Area was where a lot of the first American thrash metal bands were from - Metallica, Exodus, Testament, Death Angel. At the same time, bands like Anthrax & Overkill were appearing on the East Coast, but with a different, more hardcore-influenced, take on the genreHail yesterday

I only have their first album, Silent Night Fever, but having two In Flames guitarists in the band (one current, one former) might make them a familiar starting point. More aggressive than In Flames, and extremely close to Slaughter-era At the Gates. You should also check out the first couple of Soilwork albums, the first Darkane album, and Dissection if you like black metal mixed with melodic death. Carnal Forge would be another band to look into.
My son's very favorite is At The gates' Slaughter of the Soul, Terror 2000's Faster Disaster and Dark Tranquilty's Damage Done, Darkane's, Rusted Angel, Gardenian's Soulburner...ect
What do have a taste for Swedish Death Thrash or Power Metal along the lines of Iced Earth, Brainstorm, Symphorce, Morgana Lefay, Blind Gaurdian, Persuader, Eidolon..ect
or both..?
Then go to any Best Buy and grab both Iced Earth Alive in Athens AND the Arch Enemy DVDs..."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

I've just been to 3 CD stores
Not a single InFlames, Iced Earth, Dark Tranquility CD.
So I bought the best of the Stray Cats, Chet Atkins, Booker T and the MGs and Boston. A fiver each, I couldn't say no. I had to renounce to the best of the Doobie Brothers and a couple of Steve Vai albumsLast edited by pott; 07-20-2007, 09:33 AM.

Have you heard Testament's Low and The Gathering albums? If you like Chuck Billy's vocals on songs like "Dog Faced Gods" or "Hail Mary" then you might like the *first* Darkane album. Low was sort of a gateway album for me, making the transition from American thrash to European black/death metal.

You may want to check into Dark Areola's "Mammary Lane" on N.I.P records. Most record stores have it new for ONLY 9.99 ..or they can order it for you, I would ask them!
They're even better than Iced Earth...IMO."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Cool man... unfortunately Holland isn't famous for its metalheads, it's hard to find anything remotely interesting around. I'd bet Amsterdam is smaller than Cleveland too :s Not a great place I gotta say. There IS a big shop in Amsterdam itself though, where I bought that Machinehead and Eric Johnson album on Monday. But I'm going to Paris Sunday and THAT is a big place. I'll check out stuff over there I'll probably make a list too.

Thanks for all the help so far guys!
It's a great resource for Metal bands where you can see their discography, who plays on what album and there's some good descriptions of the music too.
Here's another...
You should rent the documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey too. Great film about Metal and its history.

An In Flames collection without Colony? Weird, I found that to be their best album from start to finish, also check out At The Gates Terminal Spirit Disease and the 2 disc set of Iced Earth's Days of Purgatory (basically re-recorded greatest hits).....I feel your pain, being the only metalhead in 'Da Choke, I have to find new stuff all on my own too....best of luck......I'm not into hell.........I just dig the soundtrack.........

How has no one mentioned Rust In Peace by Megadeth Yet? It has to be one of my favorite Thrash albums ever. And also be sure to check out Vulgar Display of Power and Cowboys from Hell by Pantera. The newest Iced Earth CD The Glorious Burden is also pretty good. I can't wait till the double album drops.
