  • Where to find EAS alerts online?

We just had an Emergency Activation System alert flash across the TV, but the picture blinked in and out and wouldn't stay up long enough to read it fully, but instead of the typical "THIS IS A TEST..." message, it said "ALERT ALERT ALERT ALL EMERGENCY..." and I couldn't make out the rest of it.

Is there anywhere online that keeps track of EAS or Emergency Broadcast System alerts? I've signed up for email alerts from http://www.emergencyemail.org/Default.asp but haven't received anything from them.

Har f'n har. They do more than just weather. We're not having any weather at the moment anyway.

They also keep track of and announce DHS alerts and the like. They also report AMBER alerts.

If there's something going on near me, I wanna know about it ASAP rather than depend on the news to tell me about it a week later (once they're done covering Vick or Hilton or Spears).

I wasn't trying to be a smart-ass. That breakdown is not acceptable.

I can't believe in the Information Age I can find Porn on 8 out of 10 websites, the latest Harry Potter book in its entirety a day before it hits the shelves, full-quality copies of retail audio/video productions, and how to build a friggen bomb using household cleaners but can't find important info like this anywhere.

I've Yahoo'd, Googled, Dogpiled, went to the FCC's site, and even asked on a local "we got our nose in everyone's business" message board.

It's nice to know that in the event of an Emergency I should just wait around, or that in the event some dipstick hits the wrong button at the Command Center and sends out a false alarm I should watch more sponsored programming until the matter is detailed.

Newc, do you have XM Radio? Channel 247. http://www.xmradio.com/onxm/channelpage.xmc?ch=247

              According to this page:
              http://www.fcc.gov/pshs/eas/

"FEMA is currently developing an Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) that will deliver digitally-based alert and warning messages to radio and television stations, personal computers, cell phones and other consumer wireless devices."

Maybe google "Integrated Public Alert and Warning System"

Saw that earlier on the FCC/EAS websites, but the key there is "working on". That doesn't do anyone any good today if something happens today.

Still haven't heard anything from anyone local, so it's either hush-hush or nothing happened.

Being the Pessimist I am, I'm assuming it's either a cover-up or information hoarding (i.e. "you're not in our little Emergency Responders' Clique, so we're not telling you").

Yea, they test this shit all the time, but when a real disaster hits like 9/11, where the fuck are they? The government sees fit to ground all planes for the first time in history, but no emergency broadcast? Does anyone in NYC or DC recall hearing an emergency broadcast on 9/11?

Actually the FCC addressed this exact situation by saying there was no need to activate the EAS because the News was on it as soon as it happened.

And As for what it could of been Newc, II believe some girls escaped from Juvie or something and are on the run in lower Kentucky. No I'm not joking.

Hmmm. We don't put bad girls in juvie. We put them in church so they can perpetuate the Pentecostal stereotype of "wear the long skirt but take the shlong in every orifice at the drop of a hat"

We put the boys in juvie. Only ones that try to escape are the idiots from Memphis who don't realize they're running through Loaded Shotgun/Shoot-On-Sight country, and they turn themselves in quickly

as I recall, the destruction was so great, that it took even the emergency notification system along with it. Latest news is that they have approved One Billion dollars for a new emergency alert system in downtown Manhattan. ...after that steam pipes explosion that happened a few days ago.
