  • Studio Sorcery (band rehearsal!)

    Hey guys!

In the hot sweltering summer of Ankara, Turkey (110 F), we have put together a rehearsal space in our drummers home and started rehearsing new songs for our second album. My good pal Berkie, me and Muratjan the drummer tried the setup for the first time tonite, and we christened the space Studio Sorcery, a reference to our band named Magick. The setup is simple, pod/v-amp preamps for us into a small mixer, with Yamaha electronic drums, into a headphone amplifier with an output to the computer, rolling cubase for simultaneous recording. We are planning various technological innovations, such as a whiteboard, and maybe a coffee machine! Right now we have to make do with beer. Anyhow, works for me!

    Onto the pics:

Me and Berkie with some guitars, working out some obscure riff!

We couldn't figure it out. Need more beer.

Berkie and Muratjan the naked drummer.

    The setup

Berkie throwing the horns while on the phone. How metal of him!

We figured out that elusive riff!

Me, Berkie and Muratjan the naked drummer with our beer collection!

    G'night boys and girls!
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

Why is it called turkey anyway? Any relation to the animal?
I suppose the original ruler of Turkministan was Turkinkamen, is that true?

I understand you guys invented the "ottoman" I really appreciate that acheivement.

What kind of beer is that?
Where can I get the first album?
Your English is really good, especially considering my Turkish doesn't exist.

I once owned a Turkish Mauser in 8mm made in Ankara and it was kick ass but I sold it to an old man that wanted to go deer hunting. He thought it kicked ass too, but didn't exactly word it like that.

    Good times and great luck!

I'd like to answer some of those questions also!

Our country's name is in fact "Turkiye" kind of means "the land of the Turks" The name "Turkey" is the English version of it, don't know who gave that name but that sure sucks And there's something going on in Turkiye to change the english name "Turkey" to "Turkiye" hope that can be achieved..

Turkiministan became independent from Soviet Union much later than Turkey's foundation (1923) so the name doesn't have anything to do with it I guess.

That's the most popular Turkish beer Efes Pilsen

We had a brief talk about that with Lev. And we came to the conclusion that Jackson needs more 7 strings. I can't rest my right hand comfy on string-thrus so I'd like to see a trem equipped 7 string Jackson. I know there's the Dr-7T but there are many things I don't like about it plus it's really hard to find

That looks like a really good practice setup. When our drummer gets an electric kit we will be doing something similar.
Do you use the monitors to hear or does everyone wear the headphones?

Headphones for now and to me using monitors doesn't sound something possible due to our drummer's house being an apartment. It can be too disturbing to jam in the middle of the night using monitors

Exactly. They're reserved for gigs, while you trash your I-been-hads on rehearsals, right?
