I just put a 500 gig hard drive in my computer. It's recognized properly in the BIOS. It's in the device manager and is working properly, however, it does not show up on the My Computer menu. What the hell do I do now?

You need to format it.
Windows XP I take it?
If so,
Right click on My Computer and select Manage.
When that opens up, under Storage, click on Disk Management.
You should then see your new drive there.
Right click on the new drive and select Format.
Choose Quick and make it NTFS.
It should be good to go after that.-Rick

it may also need to be partitioned. This may or may not be helpful:
