That's called splooge-matic deflection..a tactic I learned on the streets of Cleveland.

Make him think your agreeing with him, then when off gaurd ..slap his ass with a spatula!

Not standard issue..but I carreid a spatula, still do. Also great for kids trying to touch my gun at backyard BBQs..:ROTF:

I think that anyone trash-talking ANY professional musician (especially someone as influential as Ed) should be required to post clips of their own ORIGINAL music. That way everyone can truly understand your standards as a musician.

There are many stars in the music universe. Some are small or dim, some are large or brilliant and some never even seen for various reasons. But they all make up the universe of music. Ed is one of those stars, big and brilliant. But there are many other stars who are just as bright or brighter. Like all of the stars, they each have their own fans.

Some can only appreciate one or a few stars, others can note the individuality and appreciate each of them for what they represent. But they all have one thing in common with us, they love what they do and what they use to do it.

No one star makes up the universe, they all do. The universe would not be what it is without each and every one of them, and the best part is that like the real universe, we are discovering new stars all of the time in the music universe.

BTW, I note that the OP would have been about 7 years old when Van Halen hit the scene big time. You have to be out and involved in the late teen and upward ages to remember what early VH was all about, and the impact that they had in the world of music. To have listened to Ed in concert then is to have seen a new star in the music universe being discovered.

No offense meant, just my opinion...

I was never a big VH fan either. Sure the band had talent but I never really cared about their music. I like some of their songs but I don't give a crap about the reunion either. I'm right with you on the cock and roll lyrics...flat out lame.

I don't think the thread starter is a troll. He's simply asking if anyone else feels like he does. I can't stand Thin Lizzy, Nugent, and some others that many people simply worship. Doesn't mean those bands suck, they just never did anything for me and never will.

I've found that through the years my acceptance of things I didn't like "back in the day" have increased exponentially.

Growing up as a kid, I was big into Lizzy Borden, Anthrax, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Savatage, Ozzy and Kiss. (I know a big leap) I'd crinkle my nose at Led Zeppelin and AC/DC like a kid staring at a plate of peas. Nowadays, I'm finding that while they'll never be daily listening for me, I'm starting to incorporate their music slowly into my personal library. (I find that starting with covered versions of their songs helps a lot!)

Another example would be David Bowie. When "Let's Dance" hit the airwaves, I couldn't be bothered with it. But over the years, I've "mellowed out" and realize that it's a pretty damn good song. It's just a bonus that SRV played on it.

your'e just a douche... that's ok... I don't like some well respected bands too... Judas Priest is fucking horrible IMO.... but that doesn't mean they aren't important.

my grief is with the bandwagon VH "fans".... cocksmokers who bash VH all the time but say how big fans they used to be.... fuck they were never real fans

I am the only member on this board, I think, that can call all the rest of you young. If Ed and Dave can pull it off, more power to them. Will they sound like the old VH. Probably not. All they have to do is show up and give the old fans and the new ones a good show. If they don't. They they should just go find a cave and die. Or get on Reality TV. "Rock Heros: Life after Fame" Most of the other guys have done this. The can call it the "Edtide"
I am a true ass set to this board.

a lot of virtuoso musicians absolutely blow elephant's worn out balls when it comes to songwriting... VH was one of the best songwriters on the planet.... everything he did smelled like a hit.

one of Ed's main influences Allan Holdsworth is probablt the sickest guitar player alive... no one can play like him.... but he is one of the shittiest songwriters EVER....

I just don't understand the appeal to EVH or Van Halen.
wha??? so you also don't understand how some people like blue and some like yellow.

EVH was by far the most important musician in the 80's.... he influenced every friggin genre.... rock, metal, contemporary jazz, modern blues, pop etc.
He basically inveted the common 80's chord progressions wich everyone used no matter what style it was... listen to some mid 80's synth-pop or whatnot.... every friggin chord progression is basically taken from VH
