I am glad it is headed south. When Rite came through, I was lucky to have a map in my car and made it from Houston to Dallas in only 10 hours (normally takes 4).

Pretty much decided to ride this one out if it had come close to Houston, unless it looked like a direct hit.

Its a fact of life if you live down here, I have a generator, a large freezer and window board ups ready every summer.
anything as high as a Cat. 4 and its time to evacuate, otherwise ride it out, It ain't no fun and the lack of power for days is a real drag

Across the hioghway from my house they have a bunch of 18 wheelers sitting and waiting to head down to the the coast if aid is needed. We've called some friends down there and offered a couch for a few days if they need it.

Hopefully Dean will keep heading in a westerly direction and hit Mexico.

Yup, life down here could be nice between November and March. We look at the news and we consider ourselves lucky we don't havr to deal with heating the house or shoveling snow.

But when the summer arrives, the big bad bear rears its ugly head. I grew up in the tropics so life in the hurricane path is no stranger to me. I worry for my family and pray we don't get a direct hit from a Cat. 3 and up beast.

Well here in Santo Domingo, DR, we didn't have problems with it. It came south of the island and I actually expected more rain. Everything is ok.
