Apologies to Buffalo Springfield. There seems to a lot of postings regarding what a guitar is "worth". All guitars are worth what a buyer is willing to pay. It's that simple. It really doesn't matter what "You" paid for it. All we can throw out are ballpark figures based on historical (hysterical) prices. It's just interesting. My input is: "All guitars are worth between $10 and WTF? "

Nope. Because there are 10's of thousands of J/C guitars out there. It's like real estate. Condition. Condition. Condition. A beater is $99. A good is $150. A fine is $200. And then you go from there.I am a true ass set to this board.

Yep. Value is what some one somewhere will pay for it. So what it if it's worth little of nothing to someone like a seasoned JCF guy that is in the know. If someone somewhere wants THAT thing and will pay whatever, then that is what its value becomes.
That's why I don't sell on the JCF, haha. I know hoiw bad I am and "I" buy my stuff for a fraction of what 'someone" "Might" pay for, "I" just won't pay that and will wait till the time comes and I get the right price.
I wanna sell my Mint Model 4, but its value is probably like $200 here to a seasoned JCF'r, but I wouldn't part with it unless I got the $400 or so that I'd get on the bay for a clean one like this...
It's all in what "someone" would pay...

The whole notion of estimating the "Value" of a guitar is flawed by definition. One year a paticular model is hot as hell. Think 7-string guitars. So the inititial buyer pays big bucks for his. He sees how much they fetched a year ago. Well, what happens if interest dries up? He has a $800 guitar that nobody wants. What is the "Market Price"? It could be $200 or worthless.I am a true ass set to this board.

That's why you have to keep up with the current market value, Fett. What it was worth a year or two ago is very likely to be different than what it is worth today, or a year from now. Heck, I remember in the early 80s you could get a used Gibson Les Paul Standard for $300 because everyone wanted a Kramer or Charvel/Jackson. Then Guns 'n' Roses came out in 1987 and Les Pauls were in demand again.
So while you're right that the worth of any given guitar changes in the market, you just have to keep up with current prices.Ron is the MAN!!!!
