They dont need to increase the cost of gas. They need to decrease the days and times that it can be purchased. Make it illegal to sell gas on Sundays or after 7pm on any other day. Maybe then people will limit their driving.

North Dakota? Nobody lives there and they have a gigantic AF Base. You could have a mega-refinery and air defense. How good does that get.

Government restrictions and limitations is never the answer.

Comments like yours are very scary.

No. I'm afraid of fascism, communism, tyranny, dictatorship, socialism and any other thought that aligns with those types of philosophies.

Seriously, reflect on your idea for a while and then report back.

Rationing at times is a good thing. As far as the other things you mentioned welcome to America we already have most those things in abundance.

                  Gov't induced rationing. That'll work.

If our fore fathers gave up that easy, you would still be paying taxes with no representation.

Thanks for reporting back. At least you're engaged in the discussion.

I draw the line at federal governement involvement. If they want to be involved in solving the fuel price problem, then they should break up the unfair business practices taking place.

By the way, we already have laws about unfair business practices. Let's just enforce them on the oil companies.

The fucking price fix. That is the fucking problem. Not that we use the product.

I'm getting all worked up. I'm going to go out and drive my 444 cubic inch diesel truck around for a while to cool off. LOL

I was there during the oil crisis in the 70's. Even-odd days and long lines. Did it curb my driving? No. It just determined when I gassed up. I contend that there are no shortages anywhere. There is all the oil we need. The refineries crank it out. What is breaking my balls is: Rampant speculation; BS refinery scares and/or shutdowns; weather threats; the winter changeover and some others. Riddle me this, Gasman. Cars get way better mileage today. 12 vs 30 MPG. That's a 100% increase in mileage. Granted, we have twice as many cars. So doesn't that equal 0?

Ya know, you could easily convert that to run on veggie oil!

I agree there is no real shortage of resources. And I would conceded that govt rationing may not be the best answer. As Americans we need to slow down our fuel use. The price goes up but the demand stays constant. If the gas companies saw the demand go down when the price went up I think things would change. So does anyone have ideas on how we as Americans can make that happen?

Fuel consumption will not decline. And here is why. For a family to be able to afford a home, they have to move farther and farther away from work. Between a 3 hour 2-way commute and sitting in traffic going nowhere, fuel consumption has to rise.
