        I love the first one.
I played it over and over on PC.

I run mine off a power strip, but I've also got a Pelican FanStand, and have no heat-related issues.

I did go ahead and get H3 last night. Had to get the regular version because the Limited Editions were recalled because the discs were broken in the cases

I don't play games online, but I enjoy the Quake/Doom series in single player modes. How is Halo for SP? (PC gamer, BTW).
The single player campaign was very good for all 3 Halos IMO. For a long while I was "Doomed out" and didn't want to play any more FPSs. They all started getting cliche and boring.
Then came Goldeneye on the N64 and it was great. I'd say the original Halo was just as good as Goldeneye.

I'm not a huge multiplayer fan, especially in shooters, so the single player has to be good.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Missed goldeneye. I also am a big fan of Wolfenstein,(ID), SOF, and the Conflict: Series. For some reason I didn't get very far in Far Cry, it was highly recommended. Also an obsessive player of Starcraft, creating scenarios and playing them, and Warcraft 3.

I just liked the way the ID/Activision games looked and played on the PC, and I'm still in the opinion where I just upgrade stuff about every couple years, instead of having to get a whole new console to be up to date. Plus the PC hooks up to the Hi Def just fine.

I'm going to have to check out the older Halo games, it seems every time I ask about single player mode at the local GameSpot, they always say, no it's primarily a multiplayer game. They are all probably MP gamers, anyways.
It's only a matter of time before I start gaming online. It's just another bad habit I don't need.... At least it beats the hell out of camping out to watch the toob...

They're worth looking up for playing the story mode in coop, but to be honest Halo singleplayer bored me to tears.

Goldeneye was indeed awesome, I've still got an N64, but in retrospect Goldeneye's (and even more so Perfect Dark's) framerate is atrocious!

Well after plaing Halo 3 for awhile(single player), I'm going to chime in and say, I'm not digging it that much. For lack of a better way to describe it, I'm gonna say that it's too polished.

It looks nice and the enviroment is pretty and all, but the gameplay seems to be lacking a little bit. To me the weapons seems bland when used. There is no sensation of power when using them. I can hear everything going on around me, leaves blowing, water dripping, footsteps, but the damn weapons seem almost mute, no recoil, you point and shoot and hit everything you point at.

I know it's subjective but that lack of weapon feedback loses it for me. It seems like they were more concerned with enviroment than the playing experience.

                    Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!

On a side not, why oh why is the Flood back, ugh I always hated that part of the game.

                      POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!!!!!!!

Having finished the game just now I can say in my opinion the ending is crap IMHO, nothing pointing to a halo 4 so dont get your hopes up. Though I'ver heard beating the game on Legendary adds more to the ending so I'm playing through it on that right now and it is a whole different ball game on legendary definately co-op it! And for the record Halo 1 is the best halo game they have made IMO for single player, I still play it alot.

PS: the Grav-Hammer is the best damn weapon in the game for fighting the flood or anything that needs a good killing

I know what the ending is, I was reading a forum and someone wrote it.

My understanding was that Halo was a trilogy, so most aren't expecting a 4th Halo. There are other Halo "universe" projects in the works, but I don't think there is supposed to be another Masterchief Halo game.

Goldeneye was awesome. My brother and I were never really into Doom and all that but Goldeneye opened it all up for us. The first Halo was almost as good.
I played a couple of levels yesterday and the game does look awesome. It took a while to figure out the controls though (I never read the instructions :P ).
As for a Halo4. Well, there is always a possibility for a "prequel".
                            *Possible Spoiler Alert*

I'm also intrigued by the weird sporadic Cortana-flashes and looking forward to seeing where the story goes. I might just have to play through Halo 2 again to see where everything fits.

I see loads of props for Goldeneye, but none for Turok?
I spent so many hours on Turok 2. I always preferred the multiplayer to that of Goldeneye, 'cos it never had that annoying radar display!
Always loved the shoot-em-ups, since I first played Doom on the original Playstation, and Halo is up there with the best of them. I'm another Halo-Nerd who bought the books!
I got an unexpected bonus from work this week (Yay!), so I'll be scoring myself a 360, although I'm still a bit concerned about the reliability issues...

No need to worry about the reliability. I've had my 2nd 360 for over a year now (April of 06 - first one croaked on Oblivion ~4 months after I got it).

Just make sure you get the Pelican FanStand, not that Nyoko Intercooler thing. I've read that MS won't honor the warranty if you use a Nyoko because of how it attaches to the machine.

Halo 3 did seem a bit too polished and cliche. The one level where you get to load up a Warthog and drive around the island was nowhere near as fun as Silent Cartographer, or any of the other environments.

And you STILL can't take a vehicle into the Forerunner structures. I got a Warthog through one door but the next one only opened up enough for a body to fit through.
Later I tried taking a Mongoose through another door and there was an invisible barrier pushing me out, similar to how it did the Banshee on the bridge in Halo 2.

The giant Scarabs were also lame compared to the one in H2.

And they broke the Laser Sword. In 1 and 2 you had a pretty good reach and it was a one-hitter with almost everything. Now it takes 4 hits to take down a Flood Elite, and 3 for a Flood Brute - on EASY!

At least you can blow up a Phantom.
