"...That was the hole in the top of the plane..."
That is the radio operator's position. He fired a single 50 cal. machine gun.

Those pics are way cool! If I ever get the chance I just have to go up in one of those.

Nice thread Shreddermon, I love those old planes too. I went to a WW2 airshow a couple of years ago at RAF Duxford and they had the bomber from the Memphis Belle film which made a couple of passes, along with a Mustang escort. What a sound! Imagine a few hundred of those flying over your house, that'd be enough for me, let alone if they were dropping HE on me. (Mind you, don't suppose you'd feel the engines roar from their bombing height)

That day was really sunny, I was too tight to pay to go into the show so stood on the roof of an old airfield building in the field next door (the WW2 runway has now been shortened to accomodate a motorway). The planes were parallel with me as they were approaching to land, I had the best seat in the house!! I swear I could see the whites of the pilots' eyes as they passed.
They also had 22 Spitfires and 3 Hurricanes flying that day, the sound of those Rolls Royce engines gave me a serious hardon. It was really stirring stuff watching them belt over a few times then land one after the other, with me waving at them like a fucking schoolgirl.

No German stuff, alas, I'd love beyond words to watch a Stuka dive. I dare say if there are any left running nobody would be stupid enough to trust the 65 year-old airbrakes................apart from me. Maybe.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

      I nearly broke her back
