it's kinda sad really.... the record labels are going down... the bands don't have no one who finances the production of their albums... they are going to do it on their own... own studios... own skills etc.
the production quality is gonna suffer A LOT.... great studios, gear, engineers, producers cost A LOT.... great production requiers a lot of money period... so we will have a lot of demo quality stuff coming out in the future"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

you can't make a Peter Gabriel's or Sheryl Crow's or Metallica's or whoever is going to sound like them album in basement... it requiers ridiculous amount of time, the most expensive gear and real producers not a band member who thinks he can produce.... musicians should focus on their performance and songwriting not on how the mics should be placed.... and most musicians are horrible at producing anyway.
yes Motown records were made in a basement and Elvis albums were made in a studio size of a restroom but their engineers were the geniuses of their time... very few can be concidered a genius when it comes to engineering/producing
by losing all the support from the record label... the bands have to focus a lot more on how to record an album, how to promote it etc.
it leaves a lot less time making music."There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

the records companies aren't about to go out of business, sales might be down but they still make plenty, and they will continue to support & promote their big selling artists. So you don't have to fear that the next Timberlake, U2 or Bon Jovi album is going to be recorded in some basement somewhere. I'm sure they'll be just as highly polished as ever, and the album release, tv promo spots & supporting tour will be as highly plugged as ever.Hail yesterday

I look at it like this."I"(just like alot of people back then)make copies of Casettes for MY personal Use and My Friends Via Dual Casette Recorder(Why do you think they were made for??).Hell when I got Metallica's Garage Days on Vinyl,I put it on Cassette. That is technicaly Copyright Infringement. This is the "Next Genereation"of it,and I Support it.Period. There are people out there making copies (Lets say in the Military,, movies that are taped at a theatre,,My co-worker Got Transformers on DVD RIGHT after it came out in the movies because his wife was over in Afgahistan, and they have people sell them right on the base!!) that are highly illegal, why wont they pursuit it?HIGHLY MODDED Peavey Ultra Plus 120

Maybe if shit wasn't pro-tools'd to hell they could make more of a profit with their shitty sales. If I remember correctly Van Halen II only took 11 days to record and how many fuckin' albums has it sold?
