i prefer a neckthru, however i have owned bolt ons. and my next guitar may be a bolt on jackson. i do like the fact with a bolt on that if you break the neck it can be easily replaced.break the neck on a neckthru and you are screwed.
I prefer neckthru guitars. But of course there are some amazing bolt-on guitars out there.
The biggest problem for bolt-on guitars is that, because they are cheaper to make, almost all cheap guitars have bolt-on necks and thus bolt-on construction is often perceived as being not good. However if you play a expensive bolt-on guitar which is very well constructed, it's a completely different story.
I just unscrewed my Model 2 in half so I can fit it in my suitcase to fly home! It would be a real pain in the ass to steam off a set neck in my hotel room!!
hell yeah, another mockingbird man. which model do you have? i have the n.j. neck thru (trans red) with floyd pat tremolo. got it in 2002 and had a dimarzio super distortion placed in the bridge.
cherry burst special x with the pickups swapped out with DiMarzio's
that is a beautiful guitar shawn. if you are looking for a floyd mock check out the (mockingbird st) i think musicians friend has it online. it looks real cool and it has like 1000 knobs on it.

thanks man. the ST is the one I've been eyeballing, also older NJ series with a Floyd they come in diferent colors that trans red, although I like the trans red one. No one is bending on the 699 price for the new ST's yet tho
yeah i'm always worried about bustin somethin and having to replace the whole thing or tryin to convert it to a bolt on(which seems like a Pain in the a**) long live the bolt ons!!!

I sort of agree with that, but I've never found an expensive bolt on to convince me. I have a DK1, a couple of MIJ Fusion PROs, and a very nice Charvel Fusion Deluve.
I have plenty of wonderful bolt-ons, but the neck thrus will always be higher on the totem pole.
Funny thing is though, I won't sell certain bolt-ons because I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to replace the tone I get from them.
As far as playability, I find the neck thrus a little better, but nothing earth-shattering.
I like 'em all - bolt-on, neck-through and set-neck. I just like guitars and if I find one I like I don't reject it because of scale length or how the neck is attached. Or what logo is on the headstock for that matter..
My biggest fear of owning a neck through guitar is the possibility of neck twist. Once that happens, you're basically fucked. I'm currently suffering that problem with an older Gibson Firebird.
Every bolt on I have played sounded like the body was made of cardboard. Granted, I haven't played a huge variety of guitars, but first impressions are important.
