i LOVE iron maiden's cover of "cross eyed mary" and anthrax's cover of "parasite". death angel (i think) did a cool version of "cold gin". faster pussy cat's cover of "you're so vain" is pretty awesome too.

i HATE almost ever cover done by bands that are doing "covers" albums.
            GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

            and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

My favorite cover I think is the instrumental version of Smoke on the water by Mattias Eklundh. If you haven't heard it you should definately listen to it.

I can't think of any covers that suck off the top of my head. I still don't like a lot of the Van Halen cover tunes off the first six though.
I'm gonna eat your brains and gain your knowledge.

Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes live at the Greek Theatre-whole thing.
                Jeff Buckley- Hallelujah(Leonard Cohen)
Rod Stewart- So far Away (Carole King)
Sheryl crow-First Cut is the Deepest(Rod Stewart), and her version of Hallelujah too was really good.
Vh-You're no Good, You Really Got Me (made them their own ya know)
                SRV-Superstition(Stevie wonder)
                Led Zeppelin-How Many More Times
Not helping the situation since 1965!

                  Best

                  Little Wing - SRV
Layla (actually Claptons acoustical remake of his own)
                  I'm a Man - Chicago

                  Worst

Last Kiss - Pearl Jam ( That was horrible)
Turn the Page - Metallica ( how much distortion and shit can they
possibly throw on top of a mellow song? That would be
equivalent to taking Eruption and playing it on a kazoo)

                            Favorite:
Testament: Sails of Charon - Has a little more balls with modern distortion and tuned down; plus James Murphy stays true to the original solo
                            Killswitch Engage: Holy Diver
                            Pantera: Planet Caravan
Snake River Conspiracy: Love Song - Not really into electronic/techno, but this is a very dark cover of an 80's pop song that just kicks some ass
                            Faith No More: Easy
Fantomas: Directors Cut album - An album of covers of movie theme songs (Godfather, Cape Fear, The Omen, and more). Some pretty eclectic shit.
                            Least Favorite:
Six Feet Under's Graveyard Classics albums: WTF were they thinking?
