Ace got me playing guitar...I remember wanting a Gibson 'les' paul (I thought it was French...) just like Ace's. I couldn't wait to be good enough to jam along to Destroyer. Unfortunately, the more I practised, the less I could bear playing my Kiss albums...shame though, I really enjoyed being a Kiss fan.

I know my timeline is a little screwed up, but one of the reasons I dissed Kiss at the time is because there were two camps of rock when I was in jr. high/high school. Kiss was in the "Miller light/Marlboro Light" wannabe crowd. We were the "Budweiser/Marlboro Red" crowd.
My group of freinds listened to Rush, UFO/Scorpions,Triumph, ZZ, the "real" rock bands. Oddly enough, those same wannabes also were into Saturday Night Fever and Solid Gold Dancers and that kind of wuss garbage.
So, it was a "cultural" thing, too. I get Kiss, and understand what the fuss is all about, and I don't hold anything against the Kiss phenomenon. Coming out a doing shows looking like that takes some real Kahunas. I always get the feeling that they didn't take themselves too seriously, which is cool.

I agree, Kiss just wanted to bring some rock and roll. I still can't listen to them now, but if they tour the UK again, I'll be one of the first in line. I saw them at Wembley Arena back in '98/'99, original line up, Ace was incredibly bad, a spectacle in itself, but the whole show was jaw dropping. It was like watching a cartoon come to life.

When I saw them on the "first" Reunion Tour, it was basically a trainwreck. But I have been a fan of their earlier music, since buying my first Kiss album at the age of 8 years old (Double Platinum). They sucked after Ace left in my honest opinion, and when he came back to tour it was about money, not rock and roll.

I was 11 years old and they were my first concert at the garden during the destroyer tour, it blew me away. i was a marlboro red Zeppeln bong head burnout until '78, and then eddie made me want to pick up a guitar
I caught heat from my older sister's boyfriends saying Kiss sucked and i just fired back so do you-lol
Then i bomarded themn with VH and they didn't have a leg to stand on, America's finest rock and roll issue was also controversial if you liked them from the older cats, they couldn't handle the huge sound they had. they came around after a while though. Some didn't though, and being the youngest of 8 kids, I found out i liked all kinds of music, there was more albums to steal in my house than the store. I stole from everybody, and learned melody from all kinds of music although being a rocker at heart.

KISS is so underrated when it comes to writing tunes... there isn't any bands that sound like them and write tunes like they do (well at least used to in the 70's). Alice Cooper shares the same view.

Tunes like Black Diamond are just genius.... the hooks, melodies, vocal harmonies etc. are so good you can't get them out of your head.

I don't like riding a pole... I like KISS and pussy
