  • Well this is somewhat about Guitars...Shipping costs !! :-((

I know (cause im one of these guys) that most figure about $40 when
shipping an axe. EBAY's shipping estimator is about 1/2 of what it actually
costs to ship. The shippers have figured out a great scam imo..
the cardboard box is "Weighted" and able to transport up to 60 lbs .
So when your guitar and case is 21 lbs...doesnt matter! Your paying
for 60. Cost to ship a 21 lb guitar across the country UPS ground?
Insured... $106.00 frikin $'s!! Why they dont have a 30-lb box is of
course so that they can overcharge everytime. Sorry for the rant..
but this is nuts! Dont believe it when someone tells you that guitar
can be shipped for $30. Most will be $65 depending on how far across
the country. And USPS (post office) wont take anything over 4ft anyway. Thanks for the vent... im stunned!

We have gone through this. The long box shipping rates have gone through the roof. Any bolt on guitar I sell will be taken down. Here is what kills me. I have a Kelly and a Pro V in the cases. They are gigantic. The Kelly is a bolt on. The V is a set neck. I may just use those as trade bait at my local pawnshop. The shipping cost to a buyer on ebay would be staggering and kill the deal.

You can't ship a hatbox without getting a surcharge.

Robert, did you have your own box or did you have to purchase one from UPS? I once sold a Coffin guitar case for which I did not have a box. When I asked UPS if I can purchase from them, they quoted me $80 for the box + shipping charges! The case was worth only $40. :ROTF:

Did you use dry ice, or overnight? 3 days on the road and fish start stinking.

                            Yep,

UPS stores are independently owned, you don't get UPS counter rates, roughly 2X counter rates.

FedEx kinkos gives you standard fedex rates.

Yikes! I've always used UPS or my local Staples copy center which is a UPS authorized shipper, and I don't think I've never paid more than $35 or $40 to ship a guitar with insurance, even from here in NJ to across the country to CA.
I even shipped my old Mesa F-30 combo in a big computer box and paid less than $60 from the local UPS Store (they seem to be a little more than the Staples or regular UPS center).

Is this the Brian Moore guitar I just bought from you, Robert? I feel bad now if you paid that much for shipping on it.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
