  • Anyone else have family in prison?

Just wondering what it's like to have somebody close to you get locked up. My only brother (younger than me by 5 years) is headed to jail on a 35 year sentence. And he'll be there for a long time, he has a mandatory minimum of 17 years.

I've been lucky that my family life has been without tragedy for the most part thus far. I still have my parents and my grandparents even though I'm getting old (39).

I've never been very close to my little brother, but man did it hurt watching my kids tell him goodbye today. And my poor Mom is broken.

No immediate family in prison. My cousin's husband got locked up (Tenton State Prison) in the late 70's for murder. She divorced him shortly after he was locked up. He was released a few years ago, but none of us have seen or heard from him.

[edit] What was your bro locked up for? Drugs?

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong.

I'd rather not go into details, but let's just say it was drug related. I love him, but he's been a real idiot the last 10 years. I told my parents a long time ago that he would end up dead or in prison. I was right....but honestly I thought he'd be dead by now.

All 3 of my ex brother in laws are in prison right now and thats where they need to be.
I think we had a JCF bro go to prison a while back don't remember who but he seemed like a cool guy that got cought up in a bad situation.
I spent time in Juvie jail for a summer at the age of 15 and it sucked big time.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I had an uncle in jail awhile ago after he had a major break down, and long story short, let his business collapse and got hit with a lot of (deserved) crap.

I got arrested once and lost my freedom for a few days....straightened me up REALLY quick. I'll tell you, nothing sucks more than losing your freedom.

I couldn't imagine doing serious time...

My older brother did time (6 years was sentenced to 15) for armed robbery, my uncle did time for drug trafficing (sp?)....a lot of my family has been in and out for minor offenses.

A couple of things. Convince your mom that she is in no way responsible for this. Let her be sad. But she didn't make her son get into this fix. He did. That being said, don't give up on him. My only experience was dealing with kids in Juvenile Hall. I knew the real good kids from the real bad guys. Your mission is to be with your brother and convince him to not become a "Bad Guy". That is about all your family can do.
I am a true ass set to this board.

My younger brother and brother in law are in the joint. My younger brother is in a halfway house and working his ass off to get out. My brother in law still has about 5 years left on a 10 year sentence. I try and write and send money to help out, and hopefully they will get there shit together or no more support from me.

My brother is 3 years younger than me, he went to jail almost two years ago for his second DUI offense. He could have gotten up to six months, but only did three. He lost his license for three years, too.

My older sister has yet to go to court, but I suspect she will be doing a short stretch. 1 or 2 years maybe.
She got popped for check fraud... more than once.
Stupid twit and her Meth habit.
I feel for her, but she isn't allowed anywhere near my house.
She's got sticky fingers and shady friends.

No relatives, but a few former employees who I really care about. It tears my heart out to think about their families, especially wives & kids. All drug related. My wife has some cousins who can't get it together, and it's so tough on her aunt & uncle. How do you draw that line & decide when to cut them off?

my two older brothers were in and out of prison for a few years. the oldest one is trying to clean up, he moved out to Iowa with his "wife" and 6 kids. the other one has Lupus and his brain is fried, so he makes a lot of stupid decisions without thinking of the consequences. my uncles looks like he going to do hard time, drug trafficking, money laundering, conspiracy to few things. it is one thing to kill some one, but don't fuck with the government or its money.
my aunt is in jail, she go busted with some heavy duty drugs in her trunk........
my pops was in and out of jail for a long time, mostly due to DUIs and child support.
