I've wanted to do this since I read the tribute.
I didn't know Donnie, but when I joined I saw the tribute at the header and found the posts. I felt that as a new member, joining just a month after the passing, any comments would be inappropriate. So I read the whole deal, and after rolling through probably one of the fastest post counts in JCF history, I figured it's time to explain myself.
You guys are great. I mean it. Not just about Don, but I have seen others have poured their souls out in this place and gotten the respect and attention that only true friends can give in support. I have joined, and given up on, several sites, which should have been more in line with my classic rock/old school background. I guess I shouldn't get into it, but in those places it seems only the admins can get away with smartass comments grounded in humor, or gentle ribbing, and all others get a courtesy toss. Or on the other hand, members flame at will, and there is no control or respect.
What the JCF community has done for me, is I was referred here because I didn't know anything about my Charvel, I got interested, and jumped in. For some, the result is GAS. For me, it was a reawakening of a true passion I have had, but left behind, building and repairing guitars (and amps, and effects). So it pulled me off habits (such as sitting around and drinking while playing games), back into working, doing, and looking forward to the next project while refining the current one. In other words, you have given me my life back, and I wasn't even aware I had lost it.
So, I have tossed my soul out to a bunch of rocking computer geeks, and am thankful for the favor.
