I was pro-Firefox for a long time, but IE7 really gives some serious competition to the Fox. It loads a bit faster, since it's semi-built-in to windows, and I like the stripped-down interface with the hidden menus.

The one arena where Firefox still beats IE is in the extension department. IE7 has the capability, but the last time I checked not many existed.

Opera was once a great browser in the pre-Firefox days and AFAIK invented tabs. Nowadays it's a load of blubber though. It runs slowly even on the Wii.

Firefox with the NoScript, Adblock Plus, and ScrapBook add-ons is unbeatable. I couldn't go back to IE.

I mentioned I do like Opera much better than Firefox.

I am very happy with IE7 and have no intrest in changing it, I am tired of people always telling me to get Firefox and I explain I used it and thought it sucked so far I found a couple people that I know that agrees with me.

It seams like all the anti MS hype is what got this browser to cult like status and if you even say its not good well then your for big business and corporations and a megalomaniac...etc...etc

I was really let down by all the hype surrounding this browser and tossed it after giving a fair shot its just not practicle I like to run a clean desktop with no extra programs running in the background and performance as well as memory efficiency is most important to me since I do gaming and Autocad work for some CNC stuff I do at home on my Mini Mill.

Firefox 2 / Win2000 Pro - no problem. Runnin a gig of PC100 (old) with an Athalon 900 Tbird (older).

IE is alright, if you overlook the myriad of hooks directly into the OS.

                then thenthen = IE

Sure, there are about a dozen steps I could take to secure the OS from itself..err...IE. Or I can download FF, and use IE for those few sites coded IE specific.

                Works for me.

haha j/k Man I tried Firefox and loved it for its plugins like downloading all images from a site instead of having to right click on each one and "save as", but I always go back to IE because of speed. jmo

I get on fine with Firefox. In college I use the new IE. Its not bad at all either. Its about time they switched to tabs. Its so much handier.

CNC...on a minimill? What did you do for servos and a controller?
I suppose you could run DNC from a PC, but what kind of servo
system do you use? I too, run Autocad (2000i), and use Firefox for
browsing. My PC is built for gaming, so I see zero issues with ram usage.

I have a small Enco mill, one of those tabletop deals, but big enough for guitar bodies. Interesting.

I bought this setup used, but here are the specs and the guys website that sells the kits.

I currently had to move my minimill from my old shop to home and am trying to get it up and running again but the website pretty much explains the setup as I am still learning and ruining lots of pieces of scrap.

you're right - Firefox is actually crap. I only say I prefer Firefox because I want to seem cool to all the MS haters. I keep using it in hope that the anti-Gates lobby will let me hang out with them

Yeah right, Microsoft "sucks at everything we do". That must be why we still sell several billion dollars worth of software every quarter. And don't give me the old "you have a monopoloy" bullshit because you talking about how much you love Firefox, Linux, etc is essentially proof that we do not have a monopoly. You have choices and you're choosing something other than MS. Great, good for you. The market is working.

But a lot of people/companies buy our software because it fills a need and it seems to work just fine for them.

I really struggle to keep my mouth shut and not get defensive on threads like these, but for me MS has been a great place to work for 11 years now. It has fed my kids and allowed me to purchase a few Jacksons over the years. So you'll have to forgive me if I get a little fired up when the random "Micrsoft sucks at everything they do" comments come flying because I can't help but take it personally.

Do we suck at some things? Yes of course, no doubt about it.

I'm the first one to yell and scream when we do stupid shit, and like most big companies, we do a lot of it. But for all our past fuck-ups, we also have some killer products - SharePoint, SQL Server, XBox Live, etc.

So back on topic, I occasionally use Firefox on my home systems and I like it just fine. It has that single-click "get rid of all my porn surfing history" feature which is really nice.
