Well, you know what they say about opinions, and you're certainly entitled to yours.

I've been developing and installing software for almost 20 years, and I stand by mine.

The fact that people/companies buy MS products is more a product of not having a choice than anything else IMO. Last I checked, unless you're willing to spend more for an Apple (which I highly recommend) the average joe doesn't have a choice on the OS you get on a PC purchase.

And MS was oh so fast to respond to the faulty XBox360 fiasco. Making $129 per sucker to send in your busted Xbox360 and shipping back REFURBISHED ones before they finally owned up to it (only under tremendous pressure I might add). That is a fucking disgrace IMO.

And... ah it's not even worth it. Like arguing politics, never a winner.

Not true, there are plenty of non-MS options out there.

That is one point on which we can definitely agree. And given that you're an admin and I'm just a lowly member, I definitely won't be the winner no matter how compelling my arguments may be.

Yeah, there are other options I guess, but what I mean is that the "computer in a box" that the average joe sees for sale at Walmart or Staples is 99.9% of the time a Windows OS.

I realize alot of people use MS stuff and are happy, i'm just not one of them for many reasons and I don't think i'm alone...

If everyone suddenly became intelligent, it would mean very, very bad business for microsoft. The majority of people are stupid, powerless, weak morons with $ to spend, and corporations like MS take advantage of that fact to feed on them.

... but let's be fair. Every OS has its good and bad points. Windows only has bad points, but it doesn't exactly qualify as an operating system.

Gotta go with FireFox number 1
then Opera and IE 7 last. IE is just slower on my systems (all good P4s - guess I need a quadcore)

Almost all companies assume the customer is an idiot (because it's generally true). Apple is much worse about it than MS though - try updating hardware on your Mac or changing the battery on your iPod or doing anything relatively complicated or "dangerous" on OS X.

The trouble with Microsoft is they have "A" teams and "B" teams. The "A" teams rock and built Windows NT, SQL Server, XBox360, and Microsoft Access. The "B" teams...umm...not so much. They built everything else (Windows ME, Windows Mobile, Microsoft Word, etc). Just pray that the software YOU just bought was built by one of their "A" teams.

I love programming in VB.NET in MS Visual Basic. All OS's have their good and bad points. I just feel that MS lacks a lot of the times. Firefox standardized a lot of stuff. If it didn't exist, IE would still be in the 6.0 which blows.

                        well, there's an oxymoron

I've moved to the Core 2 (E6600) and it is a different world. A lot more applications use multithreading than you'd think.

I gave SeaMonkey a shot for two days. pretty good. but still eats up memory when running multiple tabs just like firefox. I just uninstalled it. Looks like I'm stuck with firefox until they fix the problem.

Maybe mini fox? I use Firefox on occasion just because I like all the custom plugins and it gives me tighter security over java script when surfing. I also don't have flash installed so it doesn't bring up some things, plus I can swap over to IE and view the same page easily if I have issue.
I really have not noticed the added mem useage and I run a old 478 2.66 single core on this system. Takes a bit longer to load but once up I surf just as fast as IE7.
I really liked Opera for quite some time too, may have to go back to using that.

What are you using? 1999 era hardware? Yeah Firefox is a bit of a RAM hog, but if you have more than 1 gig you shouldn't even notice it unless you're a task manager junkie.

IE has come a long way, and really it is no longer the free membership into the virus of the month club that it once was. I use it to stay logged in to my secondary accounts when using my windows laptop & have had no serious problems with it. But mostly I stick with firefox because I use Windows, Linux, & Macs and it gives me a consistent browsing interface across all those platforms.
