Was chris Barnes the vocalist for CC back in 2001? Or did the corpsegrinder guy take over by then? I watched a CC show in San francisco and the vocals were so powerful, at times, it would just drown the drum sound. they kicked major ass that night.

Hip-hop is popular because it has groove.
Kids don't like old school jazz because it swings... so people like Marcus Miller and John Scofield have replaced swing with strong backbeats and r'n'b/funk type of rhythms and tons of kids show up at their concerts
To me Tool is the most BOOOOORING band in the world. I'd rather listen to Backstreet Boys.

metal bands with groove... White Zombie, Pantera
rock bands with groove... Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Van Halen
origins of groove... old motown-soul, funk
I've never heard a jerky and disjointed James Brown tune"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

What are your favorite metal bands thetroy?

Groove isn't really synonymous with dancing. When I think groove even certain songs from heavier bands like Bloodbath come to mind. Some power metal bands have songs with some definite groove in them...Sonata Arctica - Don't Say a Word?
Groove just gets you moving, whether you're moshing or ballroom dancing.

Groove doesn't mean just dancing. Take for instance Pantera's Psycho Holiday. That song grooves like a motherfucker. It's a headbanging song if I've ever heard one.

Psycho Holiday is an example of a song I really don't care for. After listening to it a few times the only thing that I remember from it is the really boring verse riff just playing the same note over and over. These metal bands that pay attention to rhythm usually do it at the expense of everything else.
