A thank you to the JCF.... (apologies for the novel)
This place is a bit addictive. My girlfriend thinks it is a bit strange that I wake get a cup of coffee and go straight to the computer. (or maybe better yet, crazy) This place has been very informational on many things other than just music. It is like a second family, which I think is a good thing. I have admitted a few things here that I wouldn't admit to my family. And I am not talking about sneaking in a few guitars.
It's good to see how many people feel the same way about the JCF that I do. I've been a BBS/IRC/forum "addict" for many years now, but the JCF has remained my favorite while others have come and gone. I've learned a lot, shared that knowledge with other musicians, and have greatly enjoyed gigging and recording with the gear that I'd never have found out about if not for the JCF.
I'm generally not much of a poster either, but this place has more bibz then everywhere else on the internets combined! I was so excited when I found this place, I wish I'd found it sooner, a jackson haven. But its the people that makes it a great place. It seems personality is a requirement for membership here, and it shows!
Its my favourite internet site for sure, and that includes ebay and all the nekkid ladies ones
gary, thanks so much for your post; i have to say that while i may have showed up a little after you did (may of 2001), you've never ceased to be as funny as hell, and i really loved killing threads with you over the years.
there's been a lot of change over time, and we all have our memories. one of my favorite recurring moments were when greg would fight with michael charvel; those threads always cracked me up. there's a lot that i miss about the old old old old board, like when the e-fraid of ebay section was used for what it was originally intended for (it was a vault of info). one of the things that i don't miss though was the jcf yce series. don't get me wrong; i loved popping the case open, but the drama. oy.
anyway, thanks for sticking around and contributing; even if it's not like you used to ( i know that i don't post nearly as much as i used to, myself). you help make this place what it is. for that, i salute you! (like boxcar used to).
Counting the pre-pro JCF boards and forums we are nearing a decade of life. Someday soon we will have members who were not born when the JCF began! (We may alreaday???)
It is so great to see a post like Gary's which so eloquently articulates the real-world impact this community has on people's lives. It is a tribute to all the past and present JCF members who keep it humming as well as the admins who keep the home fires burning.
Before stumbling onto the JCF in 2005 I had never been on any forums. I've made a few friends and a few hundred aquaintences. Somehow as busy as I am, the JCF has become a part of my everyday routines.
It's a cool community with a lot of good people.
