  • What are your favourite "hair metal" songs?

I'm seriously thinking about putting a cover band together.
I have a vision that we'd play exclusively songs from the "hair metal" bands of the 80's and early 90's. Not only that, it wouldn't be just about the music but equally as much about putting on a show. We'd wear makeup and clothes and have big hair just like those bands did. I even have a name for the band; Foxxy Roxxy (cool huh?).
So my question to you: what are absolute must songs to play for such a band?
Two of my own favourites are: "Cherry Pie" and "Look what the cat dragged in".

Any other suggestions you might have are also appreciated.

That's funny, I've joined a band recently and that is exactly what we are doing, minus the makeup and clothes. We each put up a song for "nomination" and then try it out and see if it is a song we want/ can play.

    Our set list so far:

    Gypsey Road- Cinderella
    In My Dreams- Dokken
    Highway to Hell- AC/DC
Shook Me All Night Long- AC/DC
We're Not Gonna Take it- Twisted Sister
    Looks That Kill- Motley Crue
    Metal Health- Quiet Riot
    Iron Man- Black Sabbath
    Switch 625- Def Leppard
    Silent Lucidity- Queensryche

I am going to suggest My Michelle by G'N'R next time as well.
    1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom
    Jackson SLATQH
    Jackson DK2M Inferno Red
Jackson DK2M With a Learn Custom Paint Job
    Jackson DKMGT (project)
    Kramer Focus 1000
    Ibanez SDGR Bass
    Ovation Celebrity
    Martin Backpacker

                      Whitesnake- Slow & Easy

not sure it qualifies, but I always thought it'd be a blast to cover. Singer's gotta be real good though.

Thing about covers is you should pick ones within your means that you can do really well that are popular or of popular acts whose music you know well. If you have a fairly kick ass singer and drummer, ya got half the battle.

If you get a crowd that really remembers the '80's, some of these might go over pretty well:

XYZ - "Face Down In The Gutter"
                          Dokken - "In My Dreams"
Yngwie - "I'll See The Light Tonight" or "Heaven Tonight" (for the ladies )
Danger Danger - "Bang Bang" or "Naughty Naughty" (either of their 2-word songs)
Dio - "Rainbow in the Dark"
Great White - "Lady Red Light"
                          Hurricane - "Next To You"
                          Kingdom Come - "Overrated"
                          L.A. Guns - "Never Enough"
Masi - "God Promised a Paradise"
Ozzy - "Bark At The Moon"
Ratt - "Lay It Down" or "Round and Round"
Savatage - "Hall of the Mountain King"
Scorpions - "No One Like You" or "Rock You Like A Hurricane"
                          TNT - "Everyone's A Star"
White Lion - "Wait" or "Little Fighter"
Whitesnake - "Bad Boys" or "Still of the Night"
Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.
