  • Popup blocker and antivirus recommendations.

I refuse to pay the ridiculous amount that McAfee wants every year to use their annoying crap, so does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives for popups/spyware/virus protection?

I'd rather not switch my browser. I don't understand what happened, I didn't get pop-ups until this morning, and suddenly I get one like every few seconds.

It sounds like you may have some spyware on your computer. Download and run Adaware and or Spybot. They will take care of it. You can find these programs at Download.com.

                avg and firefox...

I found firefox to be the fastest, even after recent testing/comparison.

AVG for sure. Zone Alarm is slow as shit and slows your system down.

Pop-Up Stopper. Free, fast and no hassles.

When I was shackled to a winblows based PC I used Panda. Its what office depots corporate comps are using. Its pricey but it was the best I found. That free stuff let alot thru. Panda found it and removed it. For 100% releief from that nightmare try a MAC. hahaha

Stopzilla...I had some spyware and other crap yutzing up my laptop a while back. Stopzilla found all the problems and it wasn't very expensive. I recommend it.

Keep in mind that not one program can find everything... even ones you pay for. If you know anything about computers you can try hijackthis, which lets you know and get rid of anything that's running on your computer at any one time.

This is aimed more for removal than protection
