Do Deer Whistles actually work?

Deer whistles are like bug lights - the more common they are, the sooner the intended target adapts to them. After a couple of years, it's only natural to assume that the deer would be accustomed to the sound and it wouldn't bother them as much compared to deer in an area where only a handful of cars had them.

You want to get one of those Jericho Sirens like they put on Stukas and adapt it for your car. Now that would sound fucking fantastic, and I guarantee NOTHING would be on the road in front of you. (The verges and ditches might be full of pissed off people/cars/deer who have careered off the tarmac though when they heard you approach)

All of the deer around here get huge from snacking in the corn fields. The last one I hit (about a year ago) ran right into the side of my car as I was going down the road. I had just purchased one of the deer whistles about a week before that accident.
