So your desktop recognizes the drive, but nothing you put in it? Try taking the drive out of the machine, booting up without the drive, then put the drive back in, and boot up again. If it still doesn't work, I'd say you need a new drive. Check out www.newegg.com for a new one. Shouldn't run you more than $50 after shipping.

WWYD - What Would You Do?

Well, it's over.
I finished the disc and gave it to Safety Chick.
An OSHA guy (Richard Gooch - great guy, been with OSHA for decades) came by today for some follow-up Safety Training, and at the end of the session I suggested we let him review the video to see if he had any comment on it - suggestions, recommendations, etc. Mostly because I'd trust his opinion over hers.
He loved it, and said I should go into the business of it
He did recommend a few clarifications and expanding a few points, but he said overall it was great.
Safety Ho was impressed as well (it was her first time seeing it), so I've got a couple more days to tweak it.
And in case there's any concern about my referring to her as "chick" and "ho" - really, she's a few cells short upstairs; During our VPP inspection, the very same Mr. Gooch tripped over a raised concrete platform that used to be part of the loading dock leftover from the days of the building's previous tennant. This area was enclosed and made a part of the production floor many years ago, and the cement platform is right next to a door from the front offices.
He came through the door, and thanks to the poor lighting in that corner, as well as the fresh coat of dark gray paint, he didn't see the platform and cracked his shin on it.
He took the opportunity to mention how important it is to conduct Accident Investigations for even minor incidents, and Safety Cow asks:
"So, should I do an Accident Investigation?"
To which he replies: "What does your policy say?"
I mean, seriously. Had some skeez that didn't know any better asked the question, no problem, but for the SAFETY COORDINATOR to ask that question in the presence of the hardest of hardass inspection teams goes beyond stupidity 30 miles into the realm of outright dumbassness.
So yeah, she has about as much respect out of me as an egg fart.
Then there's the fact that she made it a point to mention she has 14 Christmas trees in her house: "One for every room".
This isn't exactly a Mecca for the rich. We're somewhere between Green Acres and Mayberry as far as income level, and $70,000 can buy you a sweet 2-story 5-bedroom brick on an acre in town in a decent area. A 14 room house is a 6-figure income easily, and that's less than 1% of the population around here, so bragging about your wealth to the people who are already facing a lifetime of just-below-poverty-and-stuck is not only crass, but uncouth as well.
Too bad, too, cuz she looks like Sigourney Weaver did in Galaxy Quest, but with a wider butt (we're talking glass-balancing).I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

It may have something to do with the fact I have 7 internal hard drives (4 on a Promise PCI IDE card, 3 on the board with the DVD), though no IRQ conflicts are showing up.
A while back (when it did work), Live OneCare would crash my system with a bluescreen and reboot whenever I put a disc in it, and I think it may still be shmucking up somewhere.
Then again, it could be the Firewire. I've definitely got something in my computer that doesn't like Firewire.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Ok, as reported earlier, the OSHA guy that came for a visit really liked the video I did, but once Management reviewed it they mentioned a few changes. Nothing major - except for the proprietary information - since this will be used off-site to train the newbs, instead of in-house, certain pieces of equipment could not be shown, so I had to replace those clips with stills of other equipment. Like I said, no biggie.
A few other things were clarifying the HepatitisB vaccine being available to first-responders, not "everyone", free of charge; replacing a picture of a ventilation fan in the wall that was surrounded by insulation that was falling away (fix the insulation, I say, but apparently that's not gonna happen); make an evacuation filmed at night a little lighter; and a couple other minor suggestions.
Mostly they were concerned about the $ecret $tuff.
Oh, and I did manage to stick my name on the video itself so no one else can claim creditI want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
