Here is what you don't do. I have had my share of pet rats. And the 30 or 40 I killed as pests. So, I decide to get Baby Keith a pet rat. Pet Store. I wanted to most active rat I could could get. When I was a kid, gerbils were one color only, a kind of sandy beige color. I guess they have different varieties now. COOL!

I agree that there's way too many shavings in there. No danger to the gerbs, just wasting shavings. You need maybe two-three inches worth.
