The second gen iPhone is still a year or two away.
AT&T did pump up the bandwidth on the EDGE networks in all the major markets.
My AT&T EDGE phone works a lot faster than it used to before the iPhone was released.

Guess your not into third party software? The program I suggested automatically saves all pictures you take to flickr...

I actually don't even have the phone yet, but I'd just shoot pics and they automatically go to flickr? Any idea how long it would take to upload 20 or 30 pics?

That's the idea. It should run in the background.

"Improved performance over EDGE. Now you can take a few pictures and minimize the application. It takes its time to upload over EDGE, and updates the number of pictures it is processing over the iflickr icon (The application now runs in background, and exits when it is finished uploading all the pictures)"

Can you find out what version firmware the iPhone your getting has?

Well it took about 1 or 2 minutes per photo, but I was walking around would take a pic, upload it, do something take a pic then upload that one. I didn't take all these pics then sit down and batch upload them. I sent my wife and a few of my other friends the link, so it was kind of a "live on the fly" update of our day as it went on. If you see the one with my friend with his shirt off. I took that one on the way back after he finished puking all over himself, in the middle of Death Valley. Sent it to my web photo from the middle of nowhere pretty much.

Would definitely be faster with WiFI. I would think the convention center would be set up for WiFi(pay service) at least.

There are rumors floating around that the 3g will be coming around the beginning of Summer.

Wow, that's pretty cool! I'd be buying the phone from an Apple store, so I guess it would be the latest version of firmware.

Anyone aware of a better option for me to shoot pics and upload them on the fly as I walk around the show?

I've also looked at the Asus 4G, which is a miniature laptop with full keyboard and 7" screen. But then I'm still doing the camera/laptop/download/upload thing.

                          Decisions, decisions!

I'm not positive on what happened, but apparently last time apple upgraded the firmware it ruined a lot of people's phones that had 3rd party software on them. I'm pretty sure they had to pay apple to restore them after it happened, as the phone would basically just turn on and do nothing.
