  • New Member Etiquette or lack of?

Is it me or has there recently been a influx of new members? Of course new blood is always welcome, it just seems to me that a lot of the new members, seem to lack some basic tact.

Like always there are lots of hey check out my new gear pics. It used to be that people were polite and always left, cool stuff/congrats(if you liked it or not). Now and it always seems to be from sub 100 posters. Damn that paint sucks/ugly/I don't like it.

It also seems like the new batch of members seem to take pride in being "aggressive" . When I 1st joined, I knew to be cool and try to get the vibe of posters and post. Now some of these guys come in and after a whopping 5 post are "I am King of all", and don't get me started on the always persistent. I got 1 for sale.

    Damn I feel old

You know Cyg, if you weren't hell bent on being fett jr. You would only have a few post yourself. Mr only been a member since August and has over 1000 post.:ROTF: :ROTF:
I'll always remember that you almost didn't make it past your 1st day here, when you went on your 90 post (cool guitar)1st day rampage.:ROTF: :ROTF:

maybe they come from a battered forum where being a ass is the norm and is excepted?

I noticed it as well. I think the issue is the lack of maturity of some of the newbs...almost the myspace mentality of teenagers not knowing how to interact with adults :ROTF:

Yep. They see how the Vets interact and think they can just jump in. Usually headfirst in the shallow end of the pool.
I am a true ass set to this board.

You know, this isn't just limited to this forum. A couple of different forums I've been a part of have degenerated over time.

Can we blame the parents for not teaching their kids manners and appropriate public behavior, and all around Anti-Asshole Appearance?

And yes, I know I'm a new guy too; but I try not to be a dick about stuff and have quality posts most of the time. *sigh* Which means it's going to be a long time before I can see the classifieds.

Anyway, not all of us are dipshits*.

Well, a lot of the people who have been around here a while know each other pretty well and there's a bunch of light-hearted smack talk, sarcasm, etc. I think some of the newer people misinterpret that a bit and overdo it in order to fit in. Just a thought.

                        I noticed it too.
I drop by several times a week to check things out
and it seems lately alot repeat questions that's been asked countless times before. Nobody using the search engine really gripes me, especially when its a repeat question.

But all in all, the board just isn't the same as it used to be.
It could easily be me just growing frustrated with the continuous repeat questions and polls when each newbie comes along.
I try to keep it in perspective that this is guitar place and we all try to help each other out as well as the newbies with guitar issues.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

"Anyone who tries to fling crap my way better have a really good crap flinger."

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Each generation seems to have its own form of douchery. Of course, we could say the same about our own "back in the day". But this new one seems to have a unique desire to highly flaunt their douchebaggery, slacker-ness, and attitude. They'll learn eventually.

It's also seems to be a reflection of society in general, which seems to be losing a significant amount of common sense and common decency. I suspect a lot of it is due to s**t-headed parenting.
