There were a couple of threads about Chuck last week, including one with a really moving video tribute from some Youtube thing.
Not a bad album from Death, and almost every one a classic. I saw them live once when I was about 15 (1992), and I've loved them ever since. Probably still my favourite death metal band. Vader do a good job of following Death's early stuff, but not many bands or writers can even come close to the stuff Chuck did on "Symbolic" or "Perseverance".

"Leprosy" will always be my favourite though - "Pull The Plug" and "Open Casket" are true classics.

I don't see any similarity at all with Vader and MA. The thing that makes me equate Vader with early Death is the groove and simplicity of the songs. Vader seem like a cross between early Death and early Slayer to me.

Its obvious that Death has many fans of all kinds! Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters for example! He's a huge fan of Chucks!! Too say Vader or MA aren't similar to Deaths style is apples and oranges!

Damn man, it's a really sad thing. Dime and Chuck, just a few days apart.. It's a real bummer.

Chuck has always been the closest thing I ever had to a guitar hero. I was never lucky enough to see him live, unfortunately.

                  A great loss.

He was an anormally talented musician and a great guy. I made my own tribute night for him last night by listening and playing all of his great stuff.

R.I.P Chuck Schuldiner... Thank you for good music.

Dave Grohl's a fan of every metal band around. Apparently. All I hear him play is shitty pop rock of the very worst kind.
I don't hear any Death influence in Grohl's work - I hear Blink 182 and Green Day, yet he paints himself to be some kind of metal fan. It's a fucking joke.

Death was one of the first deathmetal bands I listened to.
When I joined my first band (a deathmetal project in the jamming stage at that time), I learned half of the Symbolic album to get into the deathmetal style of playing.

Every year on December 13th I take out my Warrior, which is tuned to D standard, and play those songs in memory of Chuck.

                            RIP!
