  • Help me pick some new songs for my band (again)

    Hello my friends from JCF,

I know I did ask this a few months back... But since then, we have done a few gigs and I noticed what songs works and those that doesn't...

We had a gig last evening, and again, the same thing happened, some songs are pushing our crowd to go have a beer... :ROTF: I know some bar tenders prefer it that way , but as a musician, it is cooler seeing people having fun and being into the show.

So anyway, here is the set list from last evening... No order here, just the title of the songs that did work great:

    A Perfect Circle - Judith
    Blare (original song) - If
Blare (original song) - The Creeps
Blare (original song) - Trapped In My Head
    Breaking Benjamin - Polyamorous
    Breaking Benjamin - So Cold
    Chevelle - Humanoid
    Chevelle - The Clincher
    Deftones - Change
    Deftones - My Own Summer
    Godsmack - Awake
    Godsmack - Speak
    Korn - Blind
    Korn - Did My Time
    Korn - Somebody Someone
    Metallica - Seek And Destroy
    Seether - Remedy
Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become
    Tool - Stink Fist
    Tool - Sweat

And here are those that seems less popular with the crowd:

    A Perfect Circle - Pet
A Perfect Circle - The Outsider
    Breaking Benjamin - Breakdown
    Chevelle - Closure
    Chevelle - The Red
    Chevelle - Vitamin ‘R’
    Tool - Sober

    ------------------

We are planning adding a few other originals in the coming weeks as we have a few in the work.

[Before you say it, there is too many Chevelle's songs in our set list, I know, but 2 of my band mates are huge fans!]

So here is my question, any of you have some ideas for some crowd teasing songs?

Thanks in advance for the help.
    JB aka BenoA

Do another Metallica song everybody likes them.

Other than that you're playing a bunch of stuff I'm not familiar with - too modern for me.

If you're doing covers, everyone should do an AC/DC song.

        Rattlehead by Megadeth
        Raining Blood by Slayer
        Got the Time by Anthrax
these might not fit with the rest of your set list but it wouldn't hurt to play some more upbeat songs.

what Troy said and also, since you already got the Godsmack thing going, I suggest Straight out of Line. That's their best number in my opinion, and it ought to be a good live song (if your drummer can pull the verses off properly, crucial on that one IMO)
Also, APC - The Hollow should be a no brainer
Iron Maiden - The Wicker Man is also very good live. Plenty more to choose from in the Maiden catalog, if you have two guitars that is.

          good luck, keep at it

          - Rune.

Tool - Sober is pretty popular imo and one great song, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun to play both in the studio and live

The only song you guys play that I've ever heard is the Metallica one. Why not add "Jump In The Fire"?

And Def Leppards "Let It Go", "Photograph" or "Armageddon It".
AC/DC - well anything of theirs really.
"Love Me Like A Reptile" by Motorhead.
And "Got The Time" isn't an Anthrax song, they covered it. If I was going to do a Thrax song it'd be "NFL" or "Caught In A Mosh".

We do similar stuff, but we have a bunch of Alice in Chains in our set list, some Megadeth, and some Sabbath. You really can't go wrong with some Sabbath.

                      Here's our current setlist

                      AIC - Them Bones
                      Godsmack - Bad Religion
                      Tool - Stinkfist
                      Megadeth - Angry Again
                      Sabbath - The Wizard
                      White Zombie - Thunderkiss 65
                      Metallica - Harvester of Sorrow
AIC - Man in the Box
                      White Zombie - Supercharger Heaven
AIC - It Ain't Like That
                      Megadeth - Sweating Bullets
                      AIC - Would
                      White Zombie - Black Sunshine
                      Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction
                      Metallica - Fuel
                      Godsmack - I Stand Alone
                      Prong - Snap Your Fingers
                      Godsmack - Awake
                      COC - Albatross
                      Godsmack - Speak
                      AIC - Damn that River
                      Velvet Revolver - Slither
                      Tool - Sober
                      AIC - We Die Young
                      Sabbath - Warpigs
                      Megadeth - Train of Consequences
                      Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
                      Godsmack - The Enemy

We also throw in 3 or 4 originals.

We've added a few more covers to try out.

Tool - Parabol/Parabola - This is a fairly long combo, and we might cut out the intro (Parabol) to shorten it up a little.

Pantera - Revolution is My Name

                      Danzig - Mother

                      Megadeth - Crush Em
                      Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

I think you should do a wider range of bands, you seem to do a good few songs but only covers of a few bands. Most of the time at gigs I see bands doing more varied sets.
Definately add some Black Sabbath and Pantera stuff for starters. Maiden would be cool too but you'll need 2 guitars to really pull it off.

Pearl Jam - Even Flow is pretty cool as well IMO.
If your mum stabbed ya you wouldnt get upset... You would say ' Ohhh shit mum stabbed me! I better go to a hospital'. - Chopper
