  • Trans Siberian Orchestra question?

How can they play in three cities at the same time?

Stub Hub says they play 12/23 in San Antonio and Columbia, SC on the same day.

Folks on Craigslist have tix for sale for the "12/23 show in Austin" and Stub hub says it is 12/26 and Auburn Hills Michigan.

Are there two teams? Did they move some dates? I am kinda confused, which is the A-Team and Which is the B-team - north or South TSO?

Yes, there are two troops, a West coast troop and an East coast troop. So they do two cities each day, one for each troop.

Not sure if any dates have changed, but there's no way they can do three cities in on day.

I saw them last night in Minneapolis with my nine-year old daughter. We went to the evening show, but they had a 3:00 afternoon show as well.

TSO East is Chris Caffery, Alex Skolnick on guitars; Jeff Plate on drums, Chris Altenhoff on bass, Bob Kinkel, Mee Eun Kim on keyborards, and Mark Wood on violin. (various vocalists, all great, but I don't have the inclination to name them sorry to any vocalists I may have dissed)

TSO West is Angus Clark, Al Pitrelli on guitars, John O. Riley on drums, Johnny Lee Middleton on bass, Jane Mangini (Pitrelli), Derek Wieland
on keyboards, and Anna Phoebe on violin. (same with vocalists with this group, but I will mention Tommy Farese who's a pretty cool guy)

Now... I have heard that there is a 3rd group of alternates. I am sure that they have not toured. They are just in reserve in case something happens to anyone in the other groups. I have heard that has at one time included Reb Beach. But I am not sure of any other big names.

From what I've picked up on from reading what Caffery has to say each band has a full set of alternates if needed. He mentioned that Altenhoff (new bass for east this year) was an alternate in years passed.

TSO is in Austin on 12/26:

I saw them last year and also this year on 11/20 at Anaheim (west version). They are by far the best combination of light show, sound quality, and musicianship ability of any concert out there. I told this to a co-worker that goes to many many concerts (Eagles, Aerosmith, Stones, Ozzy, Van Halen, Cult, etc, etc,) and he saw them on 11/20 also and the next day at work told me I was correct on the best overall concert experience he's been to.

The light show is choreographed to the music and is mind blowing, the experience is that you are a part of the show vs. just sitting there in a chair listening. All the guitarists on both tours can shred, so no dissappointment on either version you see.

Get there on time, there's no opening act. The show is like 2-1/2 hours or more, but you are never bored. I can't wait until next year to see them again.

A couple of years back Tristan Avakian toured the East in place of Alex Skolnick - off the 'alternate squad'. One of these years I'm going to sneak into their rehersal space (Sonalyst Studios, Waterford Conn) and check them out. Supposedly they have all four sets of musicians on hand while they work the kinks out....

Todd (Tekky) - do you know if Angus comes east for this or is this just the east coast deal ??

East for the rehersals? Angus is a Brooklyn boy. We argue about pizza all the time.
